Hi Cigar Box Builders

I am looking to purchase a budget priced resonator 4 string CBG that is similar ish to the one attached

For two reasons:

1) to play and enjoy

2) to deconstruct and see how it is done!

Anyone ever made one and would like to construct?

Ideally it would have sound control on the box too.

Please send quote and estimated time it would take.

Thanks and have a good day

Adam

I'll add my two cents I don't believe (although there is probably someone that will prove me wrong) anyone that builds a decent resonator for $100.00.   The cones run anywhere from 25.00- 30.00 add a cover plate tuners and the rest of the hardware and what does the builder end-up making???? I believe that you could build one for that price and there are enough people around that would give you advice on how to get the job done.... Of course I am no expert but in my experience it can take as much time setting the instrument up (getting it to play right) as it has taken me to make the parts. Good luck in your pursuit cigar box resonators are very cool instruments and really a lot of fun to own. If there is anything that I can do to help let me know. Jim

many thanks Jim - have you made a resonator yourself?

Yes I have made a number of resonators - Starting way back when with something I called a cake pan resonator. (Not really a resonator, didn't really understand the real concept. You can see that if you wish on YouTube Keni Lee Burgess used it in his video playing "Baby Please Don't Go") You can see more of my work on my page and on my blog. www.cigarcitycbgs.blogspot.com . I am currently building a 6 string resonator using a vintage suitcase for Husky Burnette

As you can see it is a work in progress.  Take care. Jim

That guitar is looking great - very unique.

I've just come back from the city with 6 cgb ready for building!

Would be interested in hearing what it sounds like...
