Canjo string guage

I'll be doing a camp this summer and will have ten to fifteen 11-13 year olds build and play canjos. I plan on the having "bluescimer" fret spacing (Thanks Diane) and also want them to be tuned to G so we can jam with the other camp that will be learning blues harp. (they will be playing C harps) 

I would like suggestions as to what gauge and type of strings to use. I have not decided on a scale length yet though I'm thinking about 22" would be good.

OK nation, what do you think, I'm all eyes.

I'd recommend something like:    http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=gsqvh&x...#

 

That will get you to G and still be somewhat slack for ease of playing.
