A simple little box, a stick and a string.  Something about it "resonates" with people.  (No pun intended.)  It''s a wonderful thing.  And funny  . . . when I first reveal to people I meet, that I build and play cigar box guitars, more and more I find myself almost immediately mentioning something about there being an "online community of thousands" like-minded people.

When I think about it, I suppose I do that to quickly try and assure folks that I'm not some kind of crazy unabomber type (ha ha).  There is strength in numbers, after all.  And with 5,000 members in sight, I was just reflecting on what an amazing thing we have here in the nation!

Thank You, Mr. Speal for staking out this little corner of the internet for us.  You have done nothing less than spawn a worldwide culture!  Not to overstate things, but I know that this has transformed people and changed lives.  Anybody want to talk about what THE NATION means to them?

To me it's apart of my day to look at what people think and do concerning cbg's, how I can learn. I have become close friends with Jay from Tinyguitars, I just learned how I may build cbg's in my apartment with very little tools and  space, and noise. I like looking to see what others build, but I like simple built cbg's the best.
Its a great place to get ideas, share ideas and even help a few people out with my ideas.  I love building these sticks and string because it allows me to get away from the computer and work with tools which is way better than computing. It has changed things a little at my home as I'm building and selling so it adds a wee bit to the income, not a bad thing these days. Thanks Shane. ( hey isn't that a line from 'Ol Yeller) Oh and its all about the music.

sorry big guy, but, there is realy only about 100 members here...the other 4900 are my multiple Id's and user names!

don't fool yourself into thinking this hangout is anything more than a place for weirdos, think about it...a hubcab guitar???? a broomstick diddle rocker?????

arrrrrrrr......arrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......arrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

come'on Lenny let's bark at the moon!

I like having a place to discuss guitar building thoughts. And looking at what creative instruments other people are able to create. The music is a nice draw as well.

i'm unable to drive or work so i just enjoy hanging out here and swapping ideas.  losing my eyesight slowly limits things i can do.  building cbg's with hand tools is relaxing  the soldering and other things that need good eyesight can frustrate me at times but i plod on.  sometimes it takes me twice as long to do something but i do git r done.

My online pub where everybody knows your name.  Whatterya drinkin'?
For me, "what a long strange trip its been..." Before there was the internet, my world was small. Now it is international. If it wasn't for youtube, ebay, facebook, myspace, and of course, cigarboxnation, old Keni Lee would most likely never had the exposure he enjoys today. I would most likey still be on my back porch entertaining my dog, Onyx. LOL On the Nation, not only have I met and made friends with some real nice folks, but I've also had the opportunity to play some great works of functional art. I am deeply indebted to many of the fine builders here who have supplied me with some great CBGs over the years. Additionally, through the encouragement of my internet students, I have been inspired to dig in deeper and continue to explore the fasinating "Art of Cigar Box Guitar". So, thank you Shane, and everyone else, vets and newbies alike, for all the FUN. Enjoy.
i'll have an ice cold coke--lots of ice and a shot of mojo

it's become a big part of my life. the little cigar box. i've been looking for my own sound for years. these have alota sonuds. It's like a candy store. every time i pick up a cbg something new and cool comes out. this site is a great place to go thank you shane and everybody that makes this a friendly home.

The nation has giving me a way to bring all my skills into one funtional art form. I went to a guitar building school about a year before I found the nation and was hooked on building guitars but since I live in a condo in downtown Chicago I could not have all the power tools to keep building solid body guitars the nation showed me another way to create the guitar and grow in my guitar building. I lost my job about two months after making my first CBG. I started building CBG's to keep myself from going insaine and to keep the bordoom at bay. I am now up to 42 cigar box guitars and going strong. I get a magical feeling each time I get near the point of string them up and hearing that first stum of the strings. Turning others trash and found objects into a playable instrument is an honor. It has become my way of saving the planet one box at a time I thank you Shane for showing me the way.

I started by finding some delta blues music on YouTube. First thought was to get a CD. Then mooched around on the web a bit, particularly eBay and thought "Maybe if I buy a guitar I can have a go myself". Then found CBN and thought "Maybe I can make a guitar myself and then learn to play it".

Without CBN there's no way I would be making these things now. The information from members and the encouragement they give makes ALL the difference. I would also like to say that this seems to be one of the few places on the web where the atmosphere is really warm, constructive and above all respectful to all. Long may it continue and thanks to everyone who contributes here.

So, I saw this post on instructables..make a CBG. What, a guitar made from a box and a stick? (Although, i can't play anything) I have always been fascinated by instruments. So I had to build one. Well then I was hooked. After searching the internet, I found cbnation. Imagine a place for peeps making there own thing, playing there own thing.

Raised on punk and alternative, I don't think i have seen as much of the old 'punk' feeling as I have here with the other 'DYI' luthiers, builders, and players.
