A lot of us just get a 1x2 from the local home improvement store and use that for the neck. 1.5 inches seems to work very well for 3 or 4 string builds.

I use 40mm wide for the neck. Hope this helps.

I make mine 1 3/4 but I like a wide neck.

You got almost the width I'm going to use. From 2 x 1 and shaved I have now 44 x 19 mm. I got me  a 44 mm width (app. 1,73 inch). So when using your 1 3/4 how much is your string spacing?Assuming you use 3 strings?
