Hello everyone,
I just built my first sbg. When I tune it the Chromatic tuner says I'm in tune, but when I play the song that Glen plays at the end of his YouTube video on how to build a cbg without power tools it sounds horrible. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

you should aim for your strings at the nut end to just clear the 1st fret with no string buzzing, and around 3/32"-1/8" at the 12th fret, if your bridge is removeable, you can run a straight edge from your nut to a temporary packer at the bridge, get the nut as low as you can to clear strings, then adjust the packer till it's around the right height at the 12th fret, that should give you your bridge height, i'd suggest starting with both nut and bridge a fraction high, then you can sand it to lower as needed
Thanks!
Nope! For a slide guitar anything higher than the fretboard by 1/8" is fine.
Sit back, play it for a while and figure it out.
Is there a hurry to fix it?
There is no perfect guitar. No honest. Every guitar is a bit wonky when you look at a chromatic tuner. It's the way the fretboard is set up. From a fender to a gibson., they are all a bit wonky. There's things you can do to reduce wonkyness but it is never perfect. Ever. Btw. Neither is a piano.
Take a seat, have a play at it for a bit.. See how it feels.
I have come to find that not all tuners are created the same. I find that Snark tuners sound spot on, whereas a few other ones have left me lacking bigtime for accuracy. Also check and see if one string or more maybe are an octave off high or low meaning you would have to tune it up (probably) through the whole a,b,c,d back to where you started on the next level higher. Just a thought...
If you are doubting the tuner here's a phone app, there's also an android version.
It's free so you can rule this out for nothing.

Can you define Terrible? does a bar chord at the 9th fret sound like dissonance (clashing)? or is it just the pitch is sharper/higher than Glen's when you try to play along?
The pitch is way off. Like painfull to listen to off. lol
Yeah. A front photo of the whole guitar would let us see if anything obvious is wrong. We could eyeball bridge position and fret positions. Usually if these are all relatively in the correct places the guitar only needs small adjustments.
Judging by previous comments the strings are WAY too high. lol
Hey, wait a minute - let me be the devil's advocate - are you just a horrible player???!!!!!????
Why are you blaming the poor guitar????!!!!!????
I need emoticons - the ones that let you know this is just a joke!!!! I'm kidding!!!!! ;-)
