Sisters of CBN....maybe we should share something about who we are, where we're from (or where we're going?) Write as much or as little as you'd like. Hell, make it up if you want to. We won't know any different -- unless you become a CBG star.

Whaddya think?

Hey Mac, I laughed when I read your comment. That sounds like me glueing the heel on the wrong end of the neck. After I read that, I looked at mine to see if I have done that, too. LOL I can imagine what words you used, propably the same I would use. What did you do, make another heel and glue it to the right spot; that is what I would have done. It could have been my design from the get go.LOL
Where did you get those green tuners?
Yes, that is funny, we all are talking CBG. Do we have it bad?
Ladies, have a great day.
I soaked it in the sink and then hit it hard with a mallet. Luckily it came off without delaminating the neck. I often find hitting things with a mallet works when all else has failed! If it doesn't work it at least makes me feel beter.

I'm sure your projects are much better thought through than mine,

The green tuners are from: http://www.tonefactory.nl/shop2/index.php?cPath=28_158_90, but they're in europe and I'm guessing you are across the pond. I really like these tuners. They're pretty good quality and quite cheap. I used to use recycled tuners but often they turned out to be more trouble than they were worth so now I just buy new ones. I like the green too but it would be nice they if they had other colours as well.

I never guessed when I built my first instrument how addicted I would become. I bought a beautiful new guitar just before I got into this whole thing and it hangs on the wall virtually unplayed. Very strange.

How's the guitar coming along?

Mac
Hey Mac,
I would have never have thought of soaking it in water and hitting with a mallet. I am glad it came off for you.
Yep, I am way across the big pond. I am in the process of painting the neck, and myself. LOL. The color on the bottle said navy blue which I wanted, but it looks royal blue. It will have to do. I think it will look alright when I finish it. I am alot closer to finishing it than before. I can't wait to show yall my finished Sweetheart. I am going to finishing painting it after I feed my boys. Have a great day. Cheers
Hell yeah - I want one! On the back it could say "I'm not a complete idiot; some parts are missing."

LOL! Ya gotta love it when women say to one another "I love your green tuners." I mean we aren't talking about nail polish, shoes, or a sweater - we are talkin' about tuners!!!! How refreshing is THAT?!?!?!

WElcome Bev..! cool you play varied things, --I'm a fan of Chickenbone John..both his building and playing!! A Tenor Banjo?. a secret WANT of mine......LOL....a lil baritone UKE came my way a couple months ago-cheap 25 bucks, and I just love it--put classical guitar strings on, very plunky, and play it mic'd.....I don't get much done here, hoping a "build" might happen over the summer for me, I have ideas, not alot of time--my time spent just making music. Anyway--welcome! :-) Laurie

hi there from the south coast of England. I'm Bev and I've been playing various stringed fretted things for years. Right now I play tenor banjo for a Morris dance side~ got to keep our English traditions alive ! And it's good fun. I've got a couple of mandolins and a uke, been loooking at tenor guitars for a while but not found anything I fancied. Then by accident, like you do, I came across Chickenbone John's web site and thought, yes, that's it ! He made a four string cbg for me with the same neck dimensions as my banjo and I've tuned it the same GDAE. Had it about two weeks and can't put it down ! Finding it really fun to play, and when plugged in it goes throught a little Roland cube amp. Love playing English folk dance tunes, contemporary stuff and I write a fair bit myself, no blues though.... Have a myspace page, www.myspace.com/bevsdamnlion. All the best to you all, happy to be here.
Great stuff, Bev and welcome to the group - we're happy to have you here!!!!
I'm a married mother of two boys. My sister found this site about a week ago and we've both been working on our cbgs for the past week. We're going to start the next project while we wait for the tuners to arrive. :)

The whole reason we got involved in this is because we wanted to learn how to play an instrument. The cost of normal guitars being what it is, we thought this would be the best thing to do. We weren't counting on how addictive (and rewarding) the experience would be. :D
Welcome Stacey!! it is a great place for meeting folks, and no one ever not welcomed , and skill levels really varied,...I'm a "wanna be" builder...started as a player, with a purchased one...no place to set up a workplace, I might undertake starting one, out of doors--set up a table undercover in the shade--that would make me a shade tree mechanic......., make use of my good summer weather;-)
nice to meet you, :-)

Hi Laurie :)

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. We had to move some furniture, and then we went to the surplus store (I found some cheap two dollar clamps) and a cigar store (where I bought 18 boxes). I'm not sure if I got any good deals at the cigar shop - I just picked up anything wooden. I hope there's at least a handful that are usable...

A table outside under a tree sounds really nice...My sister and I are using my laundry room to build in. I think it would normally be large enough but I have other stuff in there, including the dog crate. It gets crowded but the light is good. :)

Speaking of the dog, she's in the dog house now. She ran into the laundry room and jumped up on my guitar while I was holding it in my lap looking at it. While she didn't rip the paper (it's a Monte Cristo box), she did leave claw marks. I don't know whether to leave it, or try to sand paper it to give it a 'worn' look. I'll post some pictures and maybe get some advice what to do...

years ago, we had a lil black kitty, very beloved.......she scratched up "but good", a little collectible then, and REALLY collectible now, lil Fender amp, with her claws, it became a scratchin' post......funny how the "things" are usually not as important as the pet;-)and they are forgiven without malice
Hope to see your efforts...our weather today, 100,+ too hot for THIS shade treewanna be builder! ......sounds like you cleaned up at the cigar store, LOL
