OK so it seems that Wayfinder started something that may have started something that didn't set well with everyone.

So I submit to you, I challenge you to a comparison photo dicussion.

Post your photos of of your most "down to basics" CBG and also your best built "New Fangled" CBG and then let the comments come in.

Give us the description of how each was built, and how you feel it sounds, in your own opinion. If you have a video of the git being played post that as well.

There are only TWO Rules.

Rule # 1. Post only photos and videos of your own builds.

Rule # 2. There are no rules on what's considered "grass roots" or "New Fangled"

Now, Let the fun begin.......

First photo. This is Grass roots. Built my own neck. Built my own fret board. Wound my own pick up.

Second photo. Bought the neck from Gitty. Used and old double humbucker from spare parts. Sound hole covers are laser cut from Gitty.

Both have store bought 1/4" jacks, volume and tone pots. Store bought strings and straps. What rules have been broken? None.

Sound? See the videos on my page.....

Your turn!

I'm going to call the second one the Rockin' Peacenik. Sweet gits!

Plus your bench = my bench. LOL

I like the name. Rockin' Peacenik it is.

That Tele gives me a stiffy

You call em as you see em! They all look nice.

Wayfinder,

I might call those last two "very fangled".  Love 'em!

The first one is my grass roots build, pure acoustic and loud in a banjo sort of way.  It was my first ever build finished on 3/23/2012.  A 9"cookie tin, nut, neck and arm rest built from scrap oak leftovers from our new kitchen cabinets when we had the house remodeled in 2001, bridge made from a modified piece of nylon aircraft spark plug wire holder.  The only store bought bits are the strings and tuners that I got from C.B. Gitty.

The second one is my last build finished 9/7/2015.  A Perdomo box sanded bare, oak neck and fingerboard finished in clear lacquer with polished brass thread for the nut and bridge. A P-90 soap bar pickup, blue dice knob on pot and gold recessed jack plate, tuners, and strap buttons from C.B. Gitty.  That's as "New Fangled" as I get.

I forgot my most primitive build from 6/2/2012. A can, a stick, a thumb screw and nut for the tuner, a bit of aircraft safety wire for a string and  a hose clamp for the nut.

Okay, I will play too. The old school one is a diddley-bow / pluck-tar. All guitar wood construction (maple, Indian Rosewood, ebony, red cedar), single friction tuning peg, abalone position markers (difficult to see in this photo). Bone nut and bone and ebony bridge. Strung with a guitar A string. Tons of sustain, and nice played with a slide or pressed to the neck. Finish is traditional instrument varnish.

The "fancy" one is a 4-string. Humbucker pickup, hard tail bridge, 25" scale, proportional string spacing. The fret board is flat, not radiused, which I prefer. Maple neck and fret board, angled headstock faced with maple. Not a through neck, which I find important for decent tone. Gitty turning machines and knobs. Separate tone and volume controls. High quality electric guitar strings, another thing I feel is important for a good guitar. A very ugly photo, so sorry about that. Finish is lacquer and hand-polished.

Have you seen my photos? I use a new fangled cell phone camera.

Nice gits!

Great selection! I like em all.

That I like Duck! The oil can.
