Great looking builds from the reclaimed barn wood.

Anybody else think the wood looks more like chestnut than maple?

I'm leaning toward chestnut because at the time the barn was built chestnuts accounted for approx. 25% of the forest in the eastern US and were the prime wood for barns.

Maple was usually reserved for furniture. Additionally maple normally spalts when insect damage occurs.

The images of the instruments made from this reclaimed wood don't show any spalting that I can see.

Either way the builds are really cool but if the wood is American chestnut that would add even more value to the builds.

Chestnut, schmestnut. No matter what it's made of, I've got a bad case of lust for the uke. I need an intervention. Can someone please tell me that I don't need another instrument, it's old, it's probably got live beetles in it, and I could never play it as well as C B Gitty does. Please - I'm weakening.

LOL You and me both buddy.
