nice

Okay, just making this deadline. Please excuse the missing string--it broke last night during the final tuning, so it is finished, depending on your definition of done.

This is a tenor ukelele built for a friend, with an 18.125" scale. I used a Rocky Patel box; white oak neck carved from an old barn beam; black walnut was used for the finger board, bridge and tail piece; and buffalo horn for the nut and saddle. The paint is intended to be an homage to both Piet Mondrian and Fausto Coppi.

I am pretty happy with it despite some frustrating challenges with paint reactions that re-occurred several times--as I applied the clear, finish coat. It set up better than any of my other CBGs so far, although it's only my second build, but numbers 3 and four got finished first. Intonation is not perfect, but it is very, very close when checked below the 12th fret. Anyway, here it is:

Those are my 3 photos for the contest, but if you are interested, there are more here>

Thanks for taking a look, good luck to the other contestants--there are a lot of really nice ukes posted, it'll be hard to pick a winner.

man, there are so many sweet builds on this page!

Here's another acoustic/electric CrocBite ukulele with a canary (and a little padauk) neck.  Baritone scale on this one, with Pahoehoe strings.  The fretboard and tailpiece are katalox, the nut and bridge are black water buffalo horn.

mmmm... bassy

Another one from JP at Pair-o-Dice guitars. I think this is a favorite one for me. A friend brought me this real Cuban cigar box and asked me to make him a ukulele. It turned out great! I carefully removed the decal from the inside of the lid and glued it to the inside bottom of the box. Then cut out the sound hole on the face so you can see through to the decal. The finger board and bridge are made from Brazilian cherry and the neck is maple. I've got a process down for making my own bridges with built in piazo pickup's that sound really good. Gold hardware and box corner's really give it a nice look. And of course the orange pair of dice inlaid in the headstock to match the body. Black strings to top it off.

It is really cool to see all of the unique and creative builds on this thread. I'm truly inspired by everyone of you guys. Wish we could all get together in a big shop/warehouse space too just build and jam. :)

Yep, this was a fun contest.  Tons of awesome builds.

I'm going to throw one more in to mix. Here is a Arturo Fuente uke. Baritone scale. Brazilian cherry neck with a crazy birdseye maple finger board and bridge. Nice gold hardware, red dice knob to match the red dice in the headstock. It sounds better plugged in than acoustically though.

JP at Pair-o-Dice guitars :)

My first Uke. Baratone. Lots of hardwoods. Sounds great acoustic and electric (Piezo). Fretboard zebrawood and oak. Mahogany neck with other woods. Unique way of terminating strings (aluminum cable crushers) Sliced up my two left hand fingers cutting a piece for the headstock on the table saw. Came back from the hospital bandaged up and went down cellar to finish the cut.

wild , man , love your multi wood creations

please don't hit me even if I've come up with this before. It's got some nice additions:
a well crafted neck in soprano scale that I used on "the build that didn't survive". And I found out how to store my checkers while playing (music): a cigar tube. (Its lid attaches to the rim.) Now I need to find out how to strum while in a game of backgammon!

Here's my entry, hope its not too late - 16 in scale.  Started as a large Rocky Patel The Edge box.  I cut the good wood parts into strips, and edge glued them together.  The front, back, neck, bracing, and tailpiece are all made from wood from the box- I couldn't get the plywood parts to bend, or I would have used them for the sides.  Headstock overlay from another box I had laying around.  Oak neck, douglas fir sides, oak edge banding for trim. I be posting pics of the build in progress, and more of the uke later if anyone is interested.

This Ukulele was done like it was a hundred years ago.  The frets are from the tines of forks.  Got them relatively level too.   No modern tuners, took carriage bolts and heated the heads red hot (forged) them to make knobs.  There is a tensioner on the peg head which clamps all the tuners at once and you can set the tension easily.  The neck through is like a cbg build with a sort of violin style bridge.  Quite loud for and acoustic.
