Recording Kit How To???

I am trying to find a way to record 4 tracks (live) at once with a decent but affordable audio interface

Either fire wire or usb.

I have purchased an Alexis I04 recently , but it wont play ball with Acid Pro 8 and the Cubase wont work either..

So it works as a mixer but not as a recording interface for me.

I have been recomended the Akai unit, but on the internet this also has lots of driver issues.

Previously I have used a Line pod 6 UX2 which is brilliant, but it only does 2 channels at once.

Plus the valve recording station shown above..(cheap used off ebay)

Help has anyone cracked an easy afordable way of doing this with low noise, maybe with a USB mixer.?

I'm trying to find the right bit of kit seems much more tricky than it needs to be..

Also do cheap USB mixers add loads of noise or are they ok for recording and does anyone do one that allows four track recording into Acid pro all at once.

All ideas are wellcome.....

but I guess that doesn't matter if you don't use Midi stuff and just need audio ... which seems to be more what people here want

Bug,

So does this set-up actually give you 4 discrete USB outputs? My understanding of USB and it's inherent weakness is that it can only output in L/R stereo.

I use a Peavey USB Mixer and it too only outputs in stereo. Has there been a technology change that I've missed that will provide multi channel (more than 2) USB channels.

you can get 4 in 4 out see some of my links above the peronus one shown is a 2 in 2 out but you can get onethat is 4 in 4 out. As i staretd looking I realised for less money you can get a 16 track 8 in zoom porta studio which has loads more features and runs on batteries, and I dont have to take my computer with me. It has a usb device to drag the wav files over when they are recorded.. its a different mentatlity but recon it should work.

the chepest one is the alesis I04 for 95 quid which omes with cubase... (I had registration troubles as I havehad it in the past, it doesnt work with acid pro)...

they start at 299 so the alexis one is great value but only 16 bit when you are 4 out and 24 bit when you are 2 out
