My thoughts and opinions as I drink my second PBR with spicy hot V8 juice.   PBR and spicy hot V8 juice.  Cheap and good.  Like CBGs.

I see a decline in the numbers of videos and photos posted on CBN.   Is interest decreasing?

I have a shit-load of opinions on this, but right now, I want to hear what you think.  What is the state of the CBG world and where is it going?

Yup.  Would be kind of neat for me to live closer to people active in the CBG world.

I wouldn't make that decision based on what goes on here on CBN. This is just one little corner of the CBG universe.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry with a band saw is coming out of the woodwork, trying to make a buck at it. That by itself should tell you something.

Comments from the garden......

Unc, I've been deeply involved in too many marginalized, "cottage industry" hobbies to count. Interest in every one seems to surge and wane in unpredictable ways and patterns.

Some like to build, some try to market, some just like to play. Some like to create videos, record music, share pictures of the bison in their back yard..........

Speaking for myself, I really mostly do what I do for me. I have been studying music production and attempting to develop the various skills of a recording engineer, mixer and perform as a one man band, for primarily my own pleasure. I like to build, especially weird and unusual stuff. Having fun messing with a Uke I converted to a nylon four string Mandocello by swapping some string guages and tuning. Studying music theory, practicing, taking lessons when I can....... All in between working 50+ hours a week, building fences, maintaining family, home, yard and garden. All of which is getting harder at an exponential rate at my age.

Waning interest? Not on my part. Minimal time to do what I'd like to be? Yeah, come on retirement! But the bottom line, back to your question specifically, as long as Uncle John is playing, singing and posting videos, And I can enjoy them when the time allows, the CBG world will continue to thrive in my opinion. John, you and the likes of you are the very ambassadors the CBG world needs. Carry on and take care of yourself! And keep on doing what you love, thats what really matters.

Got to go stake my 'maters!

  • Thanks, Mark.  My 'maters are off to a good start.  I do try to be an ambassador for us.  But some times my shit-head personality takes over.

Dan, they will all get RICH!

Same as every one of us who bothers to enjoy them.

It's called sunshine , I think?
Bit like rain stops play but in reverse

Maybe it's like the 1930 depression
It will come and it will go.

And just us regulars will still be discussing
Why peanut oil is better than marmite for string lubrication?

I have to confess I did buy a guitar the other day yikes!

I'm not much of a builder but I do love playing CBG"s and as a one man band I have found the CBG is a wonderful instrument to have. I love the raw simpleness of it's sound and I will always use them in my musical projects( Pardon my profile pic ). While I have seen a lot of non CBG related things on here and it has got me worried I am confident that there is a bunch of us on here( Builders and players )that will not let it die or be changed into something that isn't true to it's roots. I love the unapologetic way the CBG is, It's not pretty, It's not some 1000+ dollar guitar that you buy to show off, It may not sound like those "expensive" guitars but that's oaky because to us, the builders and players, we love them no matter how they look or sound. I love the feeling of showing someone who doesn't know anything about CBG's and thinking that's it's a piece of crap then showing them what a CBG sounds like. To some they are cheap or fake guitars but to those of us that have built or played one of these beautiful works of art they hold a special place in our heart. So in regards to your question, The state of the CBG world is alive and well in those of us that build, play and spread the word of them. I always think it will be an underground following of sorts and maybe not a household name but that's okay.

B.C.D, that is well said and affirms some good points.

I've been consumed with real life for the last month but still have a build on the bench and play every night.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs usually draws me in this time of year too (Go Blackhawks). Usually have a cbg or Chris Carlson build in my hands while watching. Rockfish and Blue crab season will take some of my time as well.

Not so much into the building very much anymore. I might make three this year so not very many photos to post. Just prefer to play more than building.

With videos, it's always in spurts for me. If I post one, chances are there's two or three more that were done during the same session.  With family, a business, 8 dogs, yard critters and just the every day things that go on it's tough to be in a frame of mind to even think of recording. So, when the opportunity comes up I try to get a few frames down, but usually dump the majority of the recordings and just keep what I feel's the best couple minutes even if I have to edit a longer jam down to something not so drawn out.

As for the decline, I don't see it. Just the normal ebb and flow of things. Spring fever gets people out and doing other things.

Like you John, I prefer to come here for CBG content but FBook seems to have a hold on a few players and builders that I like. Hate the political garbage that sometimes comes with it though. I'd just assume go to youtube over facebook.

There's some newer members on CBN from my area so it's definitely growing in southern Maryland. Our blues festival  has some cbg inspired players this year including Samantha Fish and Mac Arnold who plays a 3 string gas can.

Sounds good SlowHound.   You are busy!   Yup, I have more time to dink around on CBN than many.  Kids grown and gone - still working and volunteering, but less than 30 hours a week and I am walking distance from the jobs and volunteer gig.

I've noticed a little Facebook bashing and I gotta agree it does get kinda ridiculous on there. There is a much better vibe on here that I always enjoy and I've met some great people who have been super awesome. If I can do some shameless self promoting( D'oh! )my musical page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/bcdevils is always looking for new fans. Thank ya kindly :)
