Ok, so I love collecting Teisco and related 60's guitars.
I have recently purchased a very nice 3 pickup teisco-Kawai from another member of this forum (Pictures attached).

I have been alarmed at the sudden rise in prices over the last year especially however.
I have watched several names, Harmony, Hagstron, Teisco, etc, accelerate in asking price some 200 percent and in some cases MUCH more, as a recent Ebay sold, $1200 Gold foil SS-4 comes to mind...

I have seen these SS-4 guitars go for as little as $25 at some flea markets, auctions and sales across America.
I am now searching and watching for SS-4's, EG's (3's and 4'3), ET's (3's and 4's) constantly.

I am NOT willing to pay $1200 for ANY model however... LOL!

Somebody stuck a fat hog on that Ebay sale, to say the least!

Anybody here have an opinion on the rising prices of these fun but certainly "b" grade instruments?

What Teisco made guitar models/years have the cool gold foil pickup Ry Cooder prefers in them?  Just fell in love with the tone of these pickups on YouTube.   I am more interested in getting a pickup than a whole guitar.  If I bought a guitar then I would want to keep it stock.

I know Mojo and Lollar make new versions of these gold foil pickups which also sound good.  I also like the sound of the Teisco ET 200 guitars.

The rise in price is simply because more people are seeing folks like us raving like lunatics and thinking they don't want to miss out on something. What people just never get is that if the price goes up to sell something, it goes up to buy it. You can make better pickups and if you try at all, a better guitar from scratch. The sound is better gotten through an EQ setting than these cheesy pickups. The construction of the things is horrendous! If you want a realistic price for one of these, keep the talk real about them. They suck. They're fun when they're cheap, but a hell of a waste when they're not. Another irony too is that cheap stuff gets trashed faster too and is gone forever! People should start cloning these things to help preserve them AND improve the damn things! A full blown neck and truss rod really isn't that hard to make from scratch. Bodies are a piece of cake. You'd be surprised how easy it is to make better pickups than these ever had. Ry Cooder is OK, but he's no god and I don't think ever plays a Teisco in public anymore... Does he? Did he ever, much? I was watching Cooder on YouTube last week, and I don't think I saw him with a Teisco. I'm no Cooder expert though and pretty new to this, but I've been working on Guitars for over 40 years and these things are the dumbest designs, completely focused on being cheap! Many of these sold for $15 NEW in department stores and Pep Boys LOL! I remember pestering my dad constantly! Thank GOD he bought us Fenders! We got our hands on one of those Teiscos with the Jaguarish tremolo. What a piece of CRAP! NO HINGE! Just two pieces of steel grinding over each other, scraping chrome, rusting, screeching, or if you oiled it, turning into crusty greasy filth, and NEVER landing in the same place. Tuning was FUTILE! Look at ALL the tremolos on the tulips! The position of the string holes is literally insane! Instead of making deeper grooves in the bridge to keep the strings in place on bends, they lowered SOME of the string holes to add break angle but it wasn't on the strings that are bent the most! If you want to buy something cheep, SELL it cheep! A one way street leaves you no way home.

SACRELIGE!!!

 ;-)  LOL.

 to  each   his own  .

ps ..  did  ya  notice  the  title  of  this  group  ? ;-)

LOL. I know! I love these things for what they are... CHEAP!  but the prices are getting stupid. Just sayin'!

: )

Where am I? %b

; )

I thought I said it pretty well.

I know I said that soon there'll be nothing but Strat copies in the fleamarkets, but you know what the Teisco's of the future are gonna be? First Act.

They are the only company making dirt cheap, weird looking, guitars, and they resell for practically nothing, do yourself a favor and stock up.
