I got a 3 string cbg ready for tuners. I ran out of top side tuners (left) and cbgitty out of tuners for a few weeks(economy tuners).
Any advice on putting all three tuners on bottom of headstock? im most concerned about the thickest string pulling down. somehow I ended up with quite a few right sided. considering.3 tuners all on the bottom but thought id check here first. thank you!

Unfortunately those ones are not reversible so sounds like you've already painted yourself into a corner, better order more

I dont see any issue with putting all the tuners on the bottom (right) side of the head stock.  You may or may not need to employ some string re-routing options (eye bolts), but should work fine if you have room on the head stock and your break angles (over the nut) are decent.  Obviously, the tuners are not reversible, but you seem to know that if I understand correctly.

That's the plan. Thanks just needed to here it from someone else but me.
I've made 2 on the bottom 1 on the top before just fine...what's 1 more on the bottom with a good string retainer ? We'll see. Not my first choice but out of stock for a few weeks and I promised a cbg to dear friend who's sister just passed away suddenly. Haven't made the holes for the tuners yet with the hope the tuners would magically be avail sooner...oh well. I could use eyebolt tuners but I don't want to..plus I got 9 right side tuners so experimentation is next. Thanks

Well, do what you want but you could look closely at the tuners you have on hand and decide for yourself if it is possible to:

  1. remove the screw
  2. take gear off of post
  3. pop worm out of clips
  4. flip worm over
  5. place gear on post
  6. install the screw
  7. repeat twice for set of three tuners oriented the way you prefer

I'll be checking to see if this is possible. Thank you.

I think you will be pleased with your discovery. :D

Amazing!!! Really, the best help here. 100% solid.- cant say thanks enough especially at a time like this ...!!!
Robert which is worm? ..something's loose or I screwed up...ahh seems I've lost a washer..there's 2

The worm is the part you turn engaging the gear which rotates the shaft affecting the string tension.

Take a breath, relax and simply put the thing back together.

Refer to one of the other tuners if necessary.

The only difference will be the end of the worm will need to point in the opposite direction.

The Capo Kid has pictures of the results in the thread concerning Shane Speal tuners.

This process is simple and you can do it.

Worked great and found the washer to. Thank you very much

You're welcome.

I stand corrected. I have a bunch of the trapezoidal open geared ones from gitty from around a year and a half ago or something and those ones are definitely not reversible, the worm gear doesn't easily pop out from the chassis. But I can see from that other thread there that the chassis has changed somewhat and now the worm gear is in a slot with an opening like most other open geared units. This is great news to me, I like this form factor a lot you can fit a lot into a tight space great for twelve strings Mandos etc
