Hi all. Thought it would be nice to check in here if you're British. I know there's quite afew CBGers in the UK now because I've had quite a few emails from my blog. Time to come out of the woodwork and introduce yourself. How long have you been into CBGs? What got you started? What part of the UK do you live in? Do you know of any UK CBG events?

I'll kick it off. I'm David Ward (aka smojo) and live in West Yorkshire. Got into CBGs when I saw one on Ebay and bought it about 3 years ago. Started building and playing them. I have a blog going at

http://smojo-cigar-box-guitars.blogspot.com/ (sorry the hyperlink function doesn't seem to work)

Don't know of any events here yet but it would be cool if we could get one going sometime.

Welcome

Oh, and South Wales ain't so bad.

i am Chunk, from sunny Sarf London. got given a cbg (made by Rat Scabies) last mid winter festival(i hate xmas) total beginner to stringed instruments so its been slow going. as a woodworker i have been playing about with making aswell as trying to get my head around playing. i have made 8(1 four string) now with varying degrees of success. have managed to see Mr Hollowbelly play. and seen seasick steve at various festivals, from various distances. missed Chickenbone John by moments at the New Cross Inn. was lucky enough to get StumbleCol play at my birthday gig. saw a texan Lincoln Durham who plays a diddley bow a few months ago.

loving every minute of it and annoying the hell out of anybody that will listen to me bang on about it. trying to make a stomp box and a kick drum/tambourine thingy.

not sure of any events, we did have get together in feb last year in sidcup so hoping there will be another one this year.

everything i see now i think how i could turn it into a instrument.

i am trying to be a CBG sponge.

Hi David

I am Joe Cribb, i live in Bristol. I work as a full time musician. I got into CBG about a year and half ago. Love writing and recording with my boxes. I have a couple of my own tunes up on CigarBoxNation and ReverbNation, more to follow. I have one of my tunes available as a free download at: http://www.reverbnation.com/open_graph/song/15637820

Keep up the good work and thanks for putting us Brits on the map :)

Hello all,

I have no knowledge of playing guitar but I love the sound of the CBG and blues music so having a shed of tools and bits and bobs I decided to build meself a guitar. From there I found this site and thought I might sign up and say hello.

I'm from Newmarket, Suffolk and around 12 miles away from Cambridge.I believe there are a few CBGers over in the city and last year there was a bit of a do. If it is repeated I may try and pop over and take my attempt with me so someone can show me what (if anything) it can do. It's still a work in progress for now and I'm looking into a small CBAmp to make to go with it. Oh and I'm slowly self teaching meself to strum/pick/slide a bit of noise out of the box of bits :)

Hi, I'm Paul. I've just finished making my first cbg, with a lot of help from info on this site. I got into cbg's after following my old schoolmate Flatfoot Johnny on youtube. I have just started learning to play, with help from youtube (many thanks to chickenbone john for your excellent videos!). Anyroad, here is a link to my first guitar and first attempt at a youtube video showing my playing progress so far.

Cheers, Paul.

cool. i have been at it for a year now ,building and attempting to play. long way from posting anything up on the net.

Hey Paul, that's bloody awesome fella. I've ben building for about three years and I can't play a thing - so you're already streets ahead of me!
Good to have you on board mate.
Be good to see you at Boxstock in October to see how far you've progressed - maybe you could teach me a tune or two!

Malc

Hi,
I'm from sunny Sunderland, made my 1st CBG about 2 years ago, made 2 more shortly after that but am just getting back into them now and looking forward to my next build and spending more time playing them.
Never managed to get my head around 6 strings but 3 I can just about manage.

Hi i'm Dan

I got into this by seeing an advert for one of Chickenbone Johns build a guitar workshops and tagged along.  I'm in somerset and just had delivery of my first three wooden cigar boxes now looking to source some wood for necks.  I also have a very understanding wife who is actually fairly enthusiastic about this particular hobby!

We've caught you....PHWA-ha-ha-ha.............

Welcome to the madness Dan. Leave your former life behind and step through the magic portal that is, the world of cigar box guitars.!!!!

Hi ShadowChancer here , not been into CBGs for long , to my shame , I did not even know they existed until about three months ago . Watched a Seasick Steve gig I had recorded on the magic box and he was letting rip with his . thought to myself , I need to get one of these , Bought me a nice wee starter , 3 string slider from Slowpaw , tasty and built me first one last week , a 3 string fretter "The Tung-Sol Terror Mk2" see 101 for the story . To me . I`m from central Scotland , been in bands on and off for years , currently been blasting my Teles and 335 from my home studo to anyone who listens on You Tube (site name - ShadowChancer) write my own stuff , passes the time for me . Have put up 3 tracks featuring "box music" on YT more to come soon . I actually live in a small town near Stirling called Sauchie , any CBG players local ?
