Paging Dr. Silent Jim. . . Paging Dr. Silent Jim. . .

I have a new idea for a Jamateur Collabhut project.  I have an instrumental I'm calling Evolution for now and an idea for getting others to add in some riffs based on I V I 3-string tuning to help complete the song and keep it from being too repetitive.  I'll post up a video tonight with the starting materials.

Looking forward to another success like our "Time Stands Still on the Burying Ground" project!

There's always next time...

Hey ED - I've been playing around with this a bit and I'm having a tough time getting the rhythm down. (Operator error I'm sure) I went with bemuzic's 80 BPM book thumping and it seemed too slow, but I could be counting wrong.  I'd like to help keep this alive, but could use some guidance.  Maybe you could post another vid of you doing the 16 bars the way you would play it?  That would help me get a better idea and help us find a tempo to start building off of.

Here ya go Turtlehead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyoEYPqDJR0&feature=youtube_gda...

Hope that link works. I can't embed vid from my phone.

Pick a pattern and tempo you like and I can adapt.

Wow - Johnny on the spot.  Thanks.  I'll study this tonite and hopefully have something in a couple days.

Taking advantage of 5 rare minutes of idle time. Give it a go.

All eighth notes except the last which should be a half note.

Er, maybe it is all eighth notes except the last 3 which are quarter, eighth, eighth.

Er, maybe I should stop trying to count this out before I ruin it for myself.  :)

Hope you can find a groove that works.  When I slow it down, I can get a lot more expression and syncopation into the rhythm.  Speeding it up to 120 BPM sounds good as well, but then it is more like a rigid finger picking race like playing a banjo.

Sure thing. The riff is a little tough to get by ear. I got it through pure Zen. It just appeared to me. I'll video real slow. Feel free to reinterpret your own way as well.

This one fought me a bit, but I finally got the feel for it.  A little different than yours, but that's EVOLUTION.

I ventured into 12 bar territory, but could just as easily stick with the riff and some variations.  According to my drum loop, I was clocking in about 105-100 BPM, but could slow it down if that's what you're thinking ED.  Let me know how you want it and I'll put together a simple drum track with bemuzic's book track and I thought I'd add some cajon and we should be off and running.

I really like the idea of this project - pass the riff and see where we end up.

That sounds great! I like your version. I've played it 12 bar style too. There is a video on my page Sparkle and Shine with this riff in 12 bar ish form.

Turtlehead,  I gave this a second, and third listen on my desktop and I think you have a good tempo.  Your version of the riff isn't the same as mine, but I like yours too.  I think they fit together just fine.

Let's hope a couple others can put something together to join in.  If not, we can bogart the riff ourselves and pass it back and forth a couple times together.  Once each in 12 bars and then maybe a couple times with solos interspersed.

Strum another one!

Just like the other one!

You've been pickin' it.

And I sure would like a hit!

Don't bogart that riff, my friend.

Pass it over to me!

Ed have you got a MP3 now of where you are at with this you can post?

try this just added some reverb
