Here's a tip to remove those boxes wrapped in paper, the paper liner or those pesky labels that are used to seal boxes shut...

Use a heat gun or a hot blow dryer. Patience and patience and a little more heat and patience will get those labels and wrappers peeled off quickly. Now, the glue adhesive left behind can be frustrating. I use denatured alcohol to rub it right off of the wood. Make sure you use a soft, lint free cloth. The denatured alcohol (available at HD or L) dissolves most adhesives very easily and quickly leaving no residue, and it dries so fast that the wood fibers don't have a chance to swell up from any moisture. Walla, no sanding after removal!
Here's a cool tip to snazzy up those Bridge Pins... I use a screw finish washer to match the guitar finish. They come in all sizes and colors. Place them over the hole location before inserting the string ball and bridge pin. Looks great! Also, the radius of the top surface of the screw finish washer keeps the strings from making a sharp bend and breaking at the anchor point...

Here's another tip to finish up that snazzy CBG... A recessed jack plate! Use small or medium sized drawer, door or finger pulls, available in many colors at any local HD or L store. These are very inexpensive. Then, drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the pull. Drill a hole the same diameter as the pull into the CBG box body, glue in with hot melt or other strong glue. Mount into any normal place in the body of your CBG and viola! A beautiful recessed output jack plate. Additional tip, hold the pull with a suitable device, and drill into the pull with a pilot bit while it is resting on a piece of scrap wood. Then , drill the hole larger with the 1/4" bit. This will keep the edge of the hole clean and therefore create minimal subsequent finishing up of the hole with a file or dremel...

Nice! I also use rivets with the shaft removed. I like the ball trick! Save those broken strings man!

I guess about the coolest and simplest trick that I know of is using the ball ends off of guitars strings as ferrules to keep the strings from cutting into the wood as shown in the picture.
God bless!! jay
Also, see THIS THREAD for ferrule tricks and tips! Thanks Low Budget!
I like that idea Jay. I use #4 nuts or washers n the bottom.and I slot in a cotter pin into the top bending it in the box for grounding (if someone wants to add a pickup.)

Simple neck holder. Cut a V in a piece of 3/4" soft wood cut the V little wider than your neck. Clamp it flat to your workbench. place the end of the neck into the V to help hold the neck while shaping or working. One of my favorites.
Jay, I find them at both Lowe's and Home Depot. They are in the interior door hardware department where the closet door and interior folding door parts are. They have them in brass, chrome, brushed nickle and black anodized. I use the 3/4 inch one's, although they have different sizes. Let me know if you can't find them and I'll be happy to send you a few packs of whatever color you want...

Where do you find these "finger pulls"? I can't seem to locate them anywhere. Is there an online source? Thanks to anyone who can help and may God bless all. :)

The pic above (Brainerd's brand) are the one's I got at Lowe's. I think they were a bit less than 3 bux. Thanks Ted!
Hey, when is the best time to install the hinges on the lid and box on a paper covered wood cigar box?
Thank you sharing the tips with me. Great ideas.
I'd say after the finish it applied...
