I used a Pine box and made the neck and top from Oak. The inside reinforcements are Oak as well. I used gun blueing on my hardware to give it a tarnished look. I got a dual-rod Piezo and a 3 pole mag from "Guitarman" in Turkey. They work very well together. I am pleased with the sound. I used little glass beads for fret markers. Overall a great first build. I love it.

Big box - big sound.    Tis a triumph.   I like the looks on your face.   It would be amazing to make your first and be able to make it sound like that.
