I built a hub cap banjo.  It is a bit short on volume.  I was thinking about adding a disk piezo under the bridge.  Big disk, little disk?  Multiples?  I'm not sure what sound I'm even looking for.…Continue

"Thanks guys. I like the idea of building my own pick-up. Hadn't thought of that. I tried a clip on piezo and it did ok I guess. I may do the duels under the bridge. I need some winter projects and pickup building sounds fun."

"Or try building yourself an Induction pup ( see thread here: http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/lace-alumitone-how-is-it-done?commentId=2592684%3AComment%3A2696159 Or purchase Wayfinder's version, the Houn'Pup."

"Id' either go 27mm single piezo or dual 20's... duals are nice, glue them directly under the corners of the bridge, and cover them with hot glue, silicone, or foam tape."

"It sounds good to me. I see your asking about pickups, but would suggest that you try playing it in front of a microphone first. Has really good sound as it is."

"Piezo (single or double) can be done easily. But you could also try one of the flat style of pickups made by other CBN members. The Thinbuckers by Dan Sleep, or the Flatcat pickups from Wayfinder mount on the surface under strings, and wire goes…"

What do you find most interesting about cigar box guitars? (If you do not enter something meaningful here, your membership may be rejected).
I'm not so much a builder of guitars as banjo like folk instruments. I've never used a cigar box, but cans, hubcaps, and junk I find at thrift stores. I joined a subreddit (gitfiddle) a while back started by Shane Speal, and posted some of my projects. I spoke with him in the comments some. I have ordered some parts from CB Gitty for projects with my Son. (Pickups). I'm more of a acoustic guy myself.
This morning I was checking YouTube for a video I posted last night of a washtub guitar my son built with my help. One of the suggested videos caught my eye was of a washtub bass on cigar box nation TV. I have one similar I built myself. Decided to check out the site and then decided make an account.

Series of recordings/screen casts on Riley's washtub guitar, then my washtub bass, then my walking stick banjo. Apologies for my playing, singing, and the video/sound quality. Just a funny idea I had.

And I have no shame so I'm gonna share

Washtub Guitar

My Dad picked up a small oval washtub at a yard sale and gave it to me.  He was a fan of my washtub bass and thought I might do something with it.

My son Riley gets builders credit on this one.  He had been wanting to do a full scale six string guitar, so we found a few online examples of guitars with a similar tub.

We put together some rough plans and he built it with some help here and there from dad.  It is sort of a hollow-body electric. It has a piezo disc pickup on the…
