Hi all, I am new at this, built my first guitar and I am trying to sort out some issues. The first one is that when I pluck one string I hear a ringing coming from the other strings. Seems they get…Continue

Printer2 replied to Timothy's discussion I made my first CBG with a friend last summer
"I wish I did not toss out an old neck that I had sitting around for years. But ten years ago I did not think I would get back into music."

Printer2 replied to Jeff's discussion Slider controls for CB amp
"You can loose the resistors and caps and use the sliders as regular pots. First off you should find out their value and see if they are close enough to use in your circuit. The resistors and caps are sized for the circuit they came from and may not…"

Printer2 replied to BLY's discussion "One Puff" All Tube Cigar Box Amp Demo Clip
"Doubt you could do more than use the amp as it is. Inexpensive SS amps with a preamp tube usually run them at low voltages and loose much of the tube characteristic. Even if it ran a high voltage power supply for the tube it would not have the…"

Printer2 replied to BLY's discussion "One Puff" All Tube Cigar Box Amp Demo Clip
"Listening to the amp I do not think it needs much more gain. Mind you, that is my own personal taste."

Printer2 replied to BLY's discussion "One Puff" All Tube Cigar Box Amp Demo Clip
"You might as well drop the 12AX7 cathode resistor in half and parallel up the other triode with the first. You would get a bit more complex sound ane a bit more gain."

Printer2 replied to GARAGE HERMIT's discussion amp + multiple speaker question,???
"Speaker wattage says what it can handle, a 300w 8 ohm speaker is no different for an amp to drive than a 15w 8 ohm speaker. Now as far as a 300w speaker, doubt it would be good for guitar. No guitar speaker that is of a reasonable cost (actually I…"

Printer2 replied to GARAGE HERMIT's discussion amp + multiple speaker question,???
"Since you do not give the model of the amp I could not look up what the amp wants to see as a load. Having two 7" speakers does not do you much good if it wants to see 4 ohms but you are giving it two ohms. I would say the the two ohm speaker…"

Printer2 replied to jonathan leslie's discussion MY CBG sounds too much like a banjo, how do I get a deeper guitar sound?
"I had a piece of hardwood as a bridge and when I changed to a threaded rod coupler (just basically a bigger mass) it took some of the twang out and increased the sustain a bit. Picking closer to the neck also adds a bit of bass."

Printer2 replied to Gavin Lee Horsman's discussion Straight Edge.
"I print out the scale I want and the printer does a wonderful job of keeping things 90 to the edge of the page. I tape the pages to the neck and then take a razor knife and cut a small line on both sides of the neck. Probably can not get more square…"

Printer2 replied to chris koh's discussion Difference in tone between neck & bridge pick up
"Pick closer to the bridge and then pick up by the neck. The neck position has more bass. The same effect happens with pickups. You emphasize the fundamental and the lower harmonics."

Printer2 replied to Slowpaw Steve T's discussion A word of warning about brass hinges...
"I used to break metal samples to test their strength. The hinge broke in the right spot. I find that comforting."

Printer2 replied to Dan's discussion Look after your nuts
"And if you want the finest of tone, make sure it is made of the finest stainless steel for that bright tone. Mind you if you want more of a vintage sound you could always go for brass (antique brass that is). "
