Using aluminium

I'm making a dog bowl resonator and am considering using an aluminium sheet/plate as the "soundboard" - with a hole in it to suspend the upside-down bowl. Any ideas as to the thickness - I'm thinking 2mm (UK measures!)? Also, if I were to spend some time hammering around the hole, would it harden the aluminium, making it more resonant?

How many instruments have you built so far?: 2 classical guitars, 3 electric, 1 electric bass

What do you find most interesting about cigar box guitars? (If you do not enter something meaningful here (at least one sentence long), your membership may be rejected as a spam/bot fake account).: Looking to get back into building instruments after a 7 year gap. Inspired to build a 'travel' instrument for my great-neice and have started on the paddle strum stick. Am making a resonator version, spinning a cone resonator from a can. Have got rid of most of my luthier tools........Most interesting is the experimental aspect!
