Does it matter which way you wrap the string on a tuner?

Hey again everyone.  I was looking on a few different guitar sites trying to get an answer to this question. I do know that you want to have the tuning gear toward the nut/bridge and the threaded…Continue

Bone or plywood for string guide?

Started this discussion. Last reply by john mackay Apr 14. 14 Replies

I've been considering using a notched piece of bone or plywood for a string guide on my guitars.  I like to use a zero fret, so I don't need a real bone nut, just a notched piece to hold the strings…Continue

I just installed a Strat style bridge on a guitar I made and I got lucky, it worked out perfectly!  Not knowing exactly how to place it for height relative to the finger board and scale length, this…Continue

Does it matter which way you wrap the string on a tuner?

Hey again everyone.  I was looking on a few different guitar sites trying to get an answer to this question. I do know that you want to have the tuning gear toward the nut/bridge and the threaded shaft for the tuning key above it toward the top of the headstock, but does it matter which way you wrap the string? On a 'real' guitar, it's generally preferred to have the string wrap from the center of the headstock to minimize stress on the nut, especially for the first and last strings.  I read a…See More

"I do like that!  This all started because I can’t seem to get screws as string guides aligned just right, and they sit a bit tall for my liking when using a 1/4” fret board. You have a nice system, and the half circle cut lends some…"
