Does it matter which way you wrap the string on a tuner?

Hey again everyone.  I was looking on a few different guitar sites trying to get an answer to this question. I do know that you want to have the tuning gear toward the nut/bridge and the threaded…Continue

Bone or plywood for string guide?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Ducati Scotty Jun 9. 16 Replies

I've been considering using a notched piece of bone or plywood for a string guide on my guitars.  I like to use a zero fret, so I don't need a real bone nut, just a notched piece to hold the strings…Continue

I just installed a Strat style bridge on a guitar I made and I got lucky, it worked out perfectly!  Not knowing exactly how to place it for height relative to the finger board and scale length, this…Continue

"For what it's worth. this one took me just over 21 hours.  2 hours of that was fixing a misplaced fret and some chipout that happened when I drilled the fret board for markers.  I need to be more careful in the future, fixing those…"

"I like the idea of building components like necks in batches. You can still get the feel of building an individual guitar even if you made some of the pieces earlier."

"I just remembered when I was in the shop last night, I ordered some skull and crossbones knobs for this build, so I may still put the volume control on the lid just for looks."

"Side mount volume and a neck mounted pickup are both good ideas!  Solves a lot of problems. It’s a short box so no problems on pickup placemen there.  I was already considering a through neck, makes for a very uncluttered bridge."

"You could remove, then re-glue the "bottom" of the box.  Or, cut a large rectangular hole on the side, to clear for "the slide" of the lid, then glue/screw on a decorative cover plate out of wood, or metal.  I like your…"

Slide top boxes for electric CBGs?

I've got this great little slide top box that I want to use to make an electric guitar.  The obvious problem is that if I mount pots and pickups, I can't slide the top back on.My plan is to just shave off the lip at one end of the top and then just slip the other lip in and lay the top down into the box.  This way I lay it down in position and there's no sliding needed.  A couple of supports inside the box will hold it up where the lip was shaved off.Are there other ways to address this?  What…See More

"One thing to consider is which way you turn to adjust the strings. Most of us are used to the "Righty-Tighty" "Lefty-Loosey" setup of things that turn. If you look at commercial six stringers you'll usually see that the…"
