It's Grim up North...CBG Open Mic and Workshop anyone?

Hi guys and gals...following on from the discussions about something happening in the South Yorkshire area, looks like somehting will happen..and sooner rather than later. These dates are tentative at the moment, but I've been asked to do this, so if at all possible, I'd like to make it happen. It's come about from my being at the guitar shows, and one of the other stallholders runs an open mic at this venue, saw me playing and asked me about doing something.

Friday - 22nd July Cigar Box Guitar open mic

Saturday - 23rd July - Cigar Box guitar players workshop with my good self. (timing to be sorted, but probably late morning/lunchtime to early evening)

Venue - The Polish Club, Barnsley.

Looks like it's all free - just turn up and play - house PA, backline provided. For the workshop, we don't need many to make it work, and indeed, it's better if there aren't too many...again free (though if people want to cross my palm with some petrol money for the workshop that would be cool). This is all pretty much on the fly and late notice, but I'd prefer to make it happen on a small scale NOW rather than faff about and wait...we can always do something bigger later on in the year.

So come on..any one up for this?....lets see what we can throw together.

yes pleeeeease. Is the Friday open mic gonna be in the evening or daytime? Probably can make it to Sat maybe Friday too. Could bring some circuit bent stuff if you like. Got a few interesting pieces built now.

Friday evening...it's all short notice and low key, so whatever works is good.

OK, good people..it's all confirmed with the venue.

Friday 22nd July open mic.night 8.00pm,

Saturday 23rd July workshop 12.00 noon-4.00pm

I hope as many people as possible will be able to make one or other (or both) of the dates. I'm looking forward to being back on home turf after an absence of many a long year, and looking forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new people.

If you fancy playing the open mic, let me know, but otherwise, just being there is good. For the workshop, I'm open to requests as to what people want to learn, but I'll try and cover 3 string slide and fretted playing in a couple of tunings. I'll make sure I've got loads of spare strings (in case you need to change string gauges for us to be all in the same tuning) and some spare guitars & slides. I can also do some diddley bow and 6 string stuff as well if people want.

I will have HGMC tee shirts & stickers for sale, plus Hollowbelly CDs..and of course my own cigarbox guitars and accessories will also be available.

Also just sorted - both events are FREE! - we'll probably pass the hat round at the open mic. in traditional manner, and if anyone feels an overwhelming urge to cross my palm with silver for the workshop, don't feel inhibited, but money isn't the point here, it's about getting to together, a bit of fun and spreading the word.
