  • Hey JK, wow 2 msgs in 2 days... I have a metal/design background and did a fair amount of metal colorizing I used to use vinegar to age brass, also heat. make sure surface is free from laquer or other finish. you can achieve pretty cool patinas on brass and copper with wood chips (hard wood) and ammonia. throw them together in a plastic bag roll them around for a few days... horse urine (or your own too). There are also a lot of chemical options on the market as well. Take a look at some of the tools/suppliers for jewelers. the company; "Rio Grande" is one I have used often. Acids work but be careful. peace.

  • Hello,
I have started a CBN group entitled, "How to Play CBG" It is my hope and intention to encourage the "Wealth of Talent" here on the Nation to share their knowledge and skill to further the CBG movement. Please consider contributing an instructional "video" link to this group. If you are a viewer seeking instruction, please feel free to write. If you have any suggestions or know other players who you think may want to post instructional "video" links, please contact me. Thank you for your interest and support, Keni Lee

  • No,
I did not convert a mandolin. The instrument is made by GOLDTONE.Cripple Creek series I believe.I traded a lady a Tub Bass for it at the Palatka Blue Grass festival last October and fell in love with it.Been playing it ever since.

  • The Magic 8-Ball amp is amazing. Would you like to write this as a how-to for MAKE magazine? -- please email me! mark@boingboing.net

  • Ok,
I play a Manditar the size of a Mandolin but has six strings like a guitar.I am now building this instrument in a cigar box fashion. For the neck I used maple and oak with the 3/16" oak sanwiched between the two halves. This not only adds strength but also keeps the neck from twisting. When you laminate pieces you gain strength. My wash tub bass risers are made of cherry and oak.the cherry riser and paddle are actualy three plies of cherry and the oak riser and paddle are three plies of oak.

    Good luck,
    Terry
  • J.K.,
I just sent you a comment a few minutes ago.Or did I some how delete it.It was about laminating a neck.Let me know if you received it.

    Thanks,
    Terry
  • J.K.
Ash is a hard --- wood.Base Ball Batts are made of Ash.Little or no blemish etc. as a Base Ball Batt ie a sweet spot etc. I have not heard of a neck made of such but who knows?I bet it would make a heck of a neck like for a Mandolin or a short neck Guitar.Something to ponder! What do you think L.J.,Brian,etc?

    Thanks,
    Terry
