  • Hi Travis thanks for the friends invite mate - looks like your doing some good builds there mate keep on with the good work :)
  • Which one are you talking about?
  • Hi Travis, I have built several 6 string CBGs using plywood 35mm photoslide boxes. I don't have a router and use a dremel, hand file and saw only. I make a cardboard template of the neck profile that the box needs to accomodate. I mark the lid and cut it with the dremel cutting disc, finishing off with a hand file. I then make a pocket for the neck to sit in out of hardwood planks - two cut short for either side of the neck and one long one glued to these to create the pocket.

This was for a resonator so the neck had to be positioned more off the box than I prefer which is why I added the heel for support - normally I don't need to. Regards, David
  • Hi Travis,
Just saw your email but could not reply for some reason.
If you want to know about routing neck pockets go to Juju's page and look at his photos as he has described exactly how to go about it.
Don't worry about your 'cheap' router, that's all I have got and I rout pockets out quite easily. Just take your time!
    Hope this helps.
    Hogs.
  • Hi Travis, No problem. I thought that might have happened. Just let me know. If not, then Wray would like it. Peace, Rich
  • Hi Travis, Still want the little dulcimer?
  • That's great. now I know you could finish it. It is small, and the fret board is narrow, so I would not advise more than two strings. Do you use Paypal?
  • Hi Travis , thanks very much for your great comments mate
As regards the Truss rod , not many CBG builders add truss rods to any builds , but i do see a lot of builds with warped necks i just like to ensure this does not happen to my builds so i add a truss rod , also because i like to fully round the back of the neck and keep them pretty slender - doing this without a truss rod just seems like tempting fate to me , there are no rules when it comes to building CBG's just go with what you feel - hope this helps settle your thoughts about truss rod's
    juju.
  • Welcome aboard, Travis! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBB, CBU, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).

    Most of all, have fun!

    Tres.
  • I have been over on Yahoogroups for a while. I started watching videos by Jim Farris and Shane Speal and ended up here. I'm glad I did. I have only built one cbg so far and the fretting didn't come out so good. I get some buzz on the top string. I need to get the file out and take some off the fret wire. I am also having trouble with tunings. Hopefully I will pick up some new boxes and get busy on something here quickly. Thanks for the welcome.
