Quarantine Build: Pine Flying V body

I am in Lockdown, because of this Plague so I got some time on my hands and I thought I'd get some building done. Today is a practice body Build, a pine Flying V. its smaller than a standard Flying V, so If it comes out ok, I'm thinking it will make a good solid CBG build.

Planing was easy, cutting not so much, but clamping the 2 halves has been a major pain. Don't think it will come out the greatest, but I got time do more and get it right. might just use this as a template for future attempts.

I can't put my pics up at the moment, but will do soon. What you guys think?

I have pics, the gluing did not go very well, but this is was a practice and I got better ways of building this.

sorry don’t know why my reply dissappeared,am new to the site,am just starting my own mandolin quarantine build,would be nice to see how things progress ,we may have a lot more time than we anticipated,

I got at least another 12 weeks, I'll run out of wood, before I run out of projects.

Hi, here is a similar project from some years ago, a flying V mandolin. I find it far easier to join the timber prior to cutting the shape.

I like the mando-V Taff. Is that body hollow? I'm thinking of doing a Hollow V once I work out the solid one.

Hi JP, it's a solid body. All that stuff on the top would not leave much of an area left suitable for acoustic response from the top. If I wanted decent acoustic sound I would need nothing on a top of that size and shape.
