I know a few people that ship their belongings UPS, fed Ex, etc... ends up being cheeper and more reliable than airlines- might be another solution. Or find a builder in each location that may lend you something- then you get to check out anothers ideas along the way- I have seen a few with a scale ot 17-18 inches or so. Not real knowledgible on the subject though...

The downside - airlines, well certainly Australian airlines can be real assholes about carry on guitars these (post 911) days. They always want you to check it into baggage. Where they WILL damage it.. I've been there twice...

Best bet is to play ignorant and carry it on. Flight attendant will grab you and tell you that you could use it to hijack the plane (assure her, oh look I'm not that good yet, I've only got a few blues licks..) :D
But will eventually take it and keep it save for you. They'll tell you to check it in future. Nod wisely then forget you ever heard that..

The upside... The airport is the single easiest place to sell em for decent money to someone you've never met before. Ppl have money at airports, they want souvenirs anyhow and they're bored and want to kill time. So whip it out and play it, have a few business cards handy..

U could make it with blocks glued inside da box dat U can screw da neck down to,dat's easy to disasemble, or U could bring  a Cigar box filled with Tuners,Strings,Bridge,Nut& all necessary parts & build one when U get there,all you'll need is a neck.U wouldn't have to deal with trying to carry a full sized CBG on da plane? I'm goin' to da Philippines in da next year & dat's how I've done it a few times. hope it helps
