Handy adhesive

Just thought I’d let out a hint on an adhesive that’s worked for me well in woodwork,Gunsmithing and now in guitar building,it has a couple of real nice features it comes with a hypodermic type applicator needle as a permanent unremovable part,and to keep it clear the cap has a long needle like probe that you put back into the hypodermic needle ,this takes a bit of practice and dexterity,but always results in a usable clear needle for next use( wear your magnifiers until you get the feel of this trick!) the needle applicator can get into tiny ,tiny crevasses,checks and cracks easily then a dusting of fine wood dust matches it to the wood after setup,sanding and ..gone! I find it a perfect glue for fretting as you can easily apply ALL the glue into your fret slot none on the fret board,if you do have an accident this glue cleans easily with nearly any solvent unlike super glue or epoxies,which can be messy and harder to clean,a quick wipe up with paint thinner and done this makes cleaning a finished fretboard easier because you should know it’s finish and choose a solvent accordingly. It’s thin ,not a gel ,so people suggest fill the fret slot and let it start to dry then another fill,however I filled once and put the fret in and with a well fit fret I’ve had no problems,It also,similarly,cleans of hands easily with no instant glued fingers or super glue residue or epoxy residue ,it’s called” Hypo Cement” and is available at craft stores like Michael’s,in their jewelry beading department,price is not real bad,worth it to me,give it a try if you haven’t done so yet JMHO to help. Hi John, thanks for the heads up on this one. I was going to ask if it drys hard because that's important to me, I checked out the manufacturer and they say it stays flexible. Otherwise, it sounded good.

Your description sounded a lot like a product I use, which also comes with the needle applicator as well, called Chair Doctor. It's made to swell a loose joint and then bond it. I had not thought of using it for fretting, but I will have to try it, it's water clean up which also suits my work better.

Hi John, I do not know where you are but the glue is made in Canada apparently, a Veritus product. You possibly found it by now.

I am in the US and for some reason it’s hard to find here but easy in Canada,but getting it to here might be a hassle,( sometimes things do not flow easily across borders ) as a Truck driver I found it easy to get into Canada but hard to prove I was United States citizen upon my return to my own US! Despite my NY liscense,Hazmat clearance by the US ,SSN,my corporation ID,and my Truck which is a well known large US Corporation,my commercial liscence is also attached with the hazmat clearance and cleared by the US. Sometimes it’s even harder to get glue and other things.

Hi John, my new supply of Chair doctor just arrived.

I did a google search and found heaps of suppliers in the US. If one uses Chair Doctor you get repairs and chairs, I put Chair Doctor Glue, wallah!

It's possibly not a must-have for Cigar Box Guitar building, but I thought more preferable to craft glue. I just mentioned it as a matter of interest.

I do woodwork and traditonal muzzleloaders,which trail led me to guitars,as I was left with nice wood too small for gunstocks or furniture but too nice to not use for something,then I was gifted a number of cigar boxes,which were to be parts and tool boxes,then I saw a video by Mike atSouthern fire Guitars, and I connected ,three weeks later I had one built, and it made music.I’ll keep looking I do chairs, that need tightening,never built one,Hutches,warclubs,knife and tomahawks and handles,coffee tables, gunstocks,hiking sticks etc. Etc.my interests are wood,history,iron work and now music. I looked on Amazon,they were out of stock .

Hi John, I love guns and knives and have had many. But the law here restricts me from owning guns, anyway I've got enough to do wood-wise.

You might be interested in this parlor guitar I built some time ago, it uses timber cut from a gunstock blank that the customer gave me.

Awsome wood ,beautiful grain,in NY our fight for rights sometimes seems like a daily fight so we keep what we have ,it’s tempting me to go to greener pastures, You don’t need a permit or a liscence to build or operate a musical instrument here,not even a Cigarbox guitar,NO RULES! Can you believe it? I can even carry one freely in my vehicle unlocked! If you go to the city though it’s best to carry it concealed .
