Hey folks,

I am doing my 3rd large batch build for another elementary school, 25-30 ukuleles. I have yet to figure out a faster easier way to thin the headstocks.
  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

regards,

eric

What’s your method?

Hand saw across evert 1/8” and deep as I need then chisel and sand.

Can you post a pic of one? That method knocks it out pretty darn fast, but I guess if you want faster, then you’ll need power tools?  Do you thin them down beforehand, or do they?

Hi Eric, I’m not sure what tools or machines you have on hand so it’s hard to tell you what to do, so I’ll show you the methods I have used.
The photos should give you some ideas. I always try to save the handcrafting work until it’s really needed, I use machines and jigs wherever I can, especially on repetitious work.

Oops! you forgot something.

Thanks, Taff!  I can apply a couple of those techniques.

Thanks for all the input! I ended up making a simple jig, used angle grinder with a 40 grit flap disk that did the bulk of it then palm sander with 80 grit. Got 25 done in 40 min.

Some nifty ideas here, thanks. I use a bandsaw.
