I'm baaaaack for a bit. Some might remember me, I've been gone quite some tims.

Long story short, I moved from CBG's to making full size guitars, mostly T-style. Made about 15-20 of them, even sold  3. I switched because my cbg skillset had sort of plateaued.

My build designs are still influenced on some by the cbg world, this experiment is one of them.

I'm building a reso-Tele. Paint can lid, floating brass bridge, semi-hollow, etc., you'll get it from the pix.

Problem is I have no idea how to put the reso stuff together......Help!

P.S., the hardboard guard is a template, not the real guard.

"The timber I was referring to was the part that covered the paint tin lid and sat on the perimeter of the “cone” [paint tin lid] with a bridge in the middle sitting on top of it."
MY BAD, THAT WAS JUST MOCK-UP. THE BRASS IS WIDER THAN THE HOLE, SO i HAD TO PUT THE BRIDGE ON TOP.

"My thinking was that that part of the cone [outer edge] would not react to string vibration as well as if the bridge is sat in the middle of the cone itself."
AH...GOT IT. SO EVEN MY IDEA OF A METAL BAR GOING TO THE EDGE IS WRONG.

"A tailpiece puts downward force on the Cone, a hardtail bridge puts an upward force on the cone. Sorter trying to pull it out of its seating on the top."
AND YOU EDUMICATE ME ONCE MORE. I WAS THINKING ABOUT SETTING THE BRIDGE ON THE CONE, BUT I DIDN'T THINK THROUGH THE STRING ENDS. i AM PLANNING ON USING A TAILPIECE/STOP.I HAVE A TEISCO TYPE, BUT NOT ENOUGH ROOM, SO i HAVE A STRAIGHT CLAW TYPE. SO I'M THINKLKING A NMETAL BAR JUST WIDE ENOUGH FOR THE BRASS

Hi James, on the last reso I built I was not happy with the acoustic sound so I too experimented, I'll show a few pics of my journey. No real advice from my findings that would help, I don't think, but you may get some ideas.

All the different setups worked, as would the one you show, I also used that idea with a Tunamatic type bridge.

I wanted to use the sprocket idea so I was working around that to make it sound better or as good as others I have built and posted on here.

The Spider Bridge system in a conversion job I was doing

Biscuit Bridge style Another version shows

Now I'm trying a proper resonator cone... Trying out the sprocket as a spider bridge... I can't find a photo of the other bridges. keep on with the experiments and keep us in the loop.

Is that a straight claw type tailpiece on the box? I think the sproket looks cool...

Hi, Here is a better view. It's actually for a 12-string guitar...

Ye4ah, I think that's what I have...

I put an aluminum 8" skillet in a plywood Strat body a few years ago. Piezo on bottom of skillet, bridge is bolt on top of wood in center of skillet, 2 P90 type pickups, 5-way switch, 500k pots.

How's it sound?

Sorry about the slow response, my email wasn't working for a couple weeks. The Strat-O-Rez guitar sounds great, just like a resonator should.

The dull plywood body allows the good ringing tone of the aluminum skillet. Not all dog bowls, can lids, gas cans and skillets sound good, have to do the tap test for that ringing tone.IMO

Have you thought of using a bolt/biscuit? Scrap piece of hardwood, 5/16” bolt, easy peasy?

I agree with Brian. I made my own, but the combo of wood(biscuit) and steel(bridge bolt) works great on reso cones.
