This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

The white SG I was working on was almost finished as well, but had a couple issues come up to be fixed first.

Hi Paul, damn, I put my neck out looking at that guitar.Haha. Nice build how does it feel?
Taff

That’s kool, they used to offer a neck-thru SG kit years back? One of those I wished I had held onto!!

Great job Paul.  I thought it was a scratch build and was thinking "wow, he did an awesome neck and fret job!"

Almost finish with my build as well.  I decided to use the purpleheart for a full neck build instead and took Taffy's advice about using exotic woods for drop tops. Using a poplar slab with an olivewood top for this body and it is  lighter than a whole olivewood body which is heavy and strong wood.

Thanks guy's.
These 2 guitars have really put me through it til the bitter end. LOL
Now I know why all the Asian guitar companies put thick poly on their guitars, the wood is usually soft/dents easily.
Stewmac doesn't offer a SG kit anymore after 2018,just LP and ES335 and now that I'm through with one of them I'm seriously thinking that they will be my last kit builds. It really wasn't easier work, just different work. Not having to build a neck is great as long as these hold up, did have to dress frets and neck angle was still a situation to address.
These pickups are fantastic, made by my Ukrainian friend Vladimir at DenebTonePickups. He's in the Army now and haven't heard from him since end of May.

Hi Paul, I read somewhere, can't find it now, that you had a split from the pickup cavity to the back of the guitar, and going through the bridge post hole, stemming from the installation of the bridge post insert.

I have repaired a number of guitars where a bridge post has forced the timber in front of it into the bridge cavity, due to string tension, causing an elongated hole, and of course a loose bridge post. Just a heads up.

I normally reinforce this area between the pickup cavity and bridge posts, if the two are close together.
Cheers taff

Yes, it happened on the white SG. I even drilled the hole first to just be that outside area pressing in, but of course it split anyway. I've seen a few guitars with tear out around posts for these type guitars and a few Strat types with 2 point tremolo posts. Soft wood just doesn't stand up to the pressure.

I had a 90's Gibson LP Studio. It was 11 to 12 pounds in weight, but it wouldn't break or tear out posts. LOL

I'm done with the White SG for now. It needs some touch up on the paint, but I'm not doing that til the body crack decides what it's going to do. Either way This will be coming apart in the future to fix the crack and repaint.

The pickup combination I chose has become a favorite: P90 bridge and Firebird neck = Glorious Tones.

Don't know why pics come out on their sides, wish I had a way to fix it or knew how.

Did you post the pic straight from your cell phone, Paul?

The pics were on my phone - and moved to computer - moved to forum. The other forum I'm on doesn't have this issue, or the other posting issue.

#8 is just about finished, just need to shave the nut down to lower the action then finish up the intonation.  Always a blast to plug it in and make some noise for the first time!
