Just spotted Alans comment... I'll just have my cake and eat it...
Tins make cool "Cigar"/Tin box guitars... absolutely1... but on the contoversy of Jaffa Cakes - Am I right in that when a cake goes stale it goes hard and when a biscuit goes stale it goes... soft... Only one way to find out... maybe...
Well, there you go. Britain, the nation of inanity....!!! They do make exceedingly good Cigar Box Guitars though...!!!
(Old quote from Kipling..)
It was Reg, biscuit being a luxury item and cake isn't (go figure?). The revenue said Jaffa cakes were a biscuit and should have VAT. McVities claimed a biscuit went soft when it was old and a cake hardened. To prove the point they baked a cake size Jaffa cake and presented it to the revenue, to show they were just bite size cakes. The revenue backed down.
Simply the best tin is Campbells all butter Shortbread tin from a while ago, you "can" (excuse the pun) pick them up on ebay, the one with the belt, kilt and sporran. Check it out, some of the guys here made them way back. Best or better, let me know, Chris. :)
Swipe me, Jaffa Cakes, I had forgotten them. Were they not the subject of a controversy over whether or not they could be classed as a biscuit, or actually a cake...??? Something to do with different taxation or something.... pathetic governing bodies again...!!!!
I just googled that Jaffa tin, You are right its got Banjo stamped all over it, soon as i see one im scoffing the jaffa cakes & building one!
Okay it’s confession time! It wasn’t a Terrys chocolate orange tin I saw last week but a Jaffa Cake tin! Doh! Yes age is a factor lol. However I still think the tin would make a great guitar/banjo. I can’t make one myself as I have trigger fingers problems in both hands making my grip weak so is there anybody out there fancies giving it a go? Greg
I also buy on E-bay and use Chinese suppliers for pickups. Machine heads from various places. Frets for Stewmac in bulk. Some times Chicken Bone Joon in the UK.
Hi Rich,
Like Martin, I tend to buy on Ebay. Quite often I use Chinese suppliers. Usually cheaper than British ones. You might not have to wait so long for delivery as we do!!
Good Hunting
