Those string slots have got to be just right too or you'll get some string buzz.

The "fit" of all the pieces is the important part.

1) The track keeps anything from moving when you strum
2) The saddles have to be long for a couple reasons
a) for plenty of surface area touching on the sides when you slide them front and back. (for stability)
b) to have plenty of contact with the soundboard to transfer sound
3) There needs to be a pretty good slant on the saddle tops so that the string track isnt too big causing hangups when tunning

Of course, the string buzz could give the guitar a sitar-like effect.
