Meet Bertha the 3-string short-scale bass. 25.5" scale, 24 frets, the body is a birtch Bo Diddley box from MGB Guitars, neck and fretboard are oak.

The control plates are scraps produced by a Detroit metal stamping machine that makes parts for Ford. The Cruiser emblem is from an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser wagon. I can just imagine being parked at the beach, late 1960's, sitting on the tailgate and playing The Ventures tune Pipeline on this bass. :)

The pickup is a 4k Mini Box Bucker. The two switches are for tone capacitor selection, one is.033µF, the other .068µF, combined they act as a .1 µF cap and both off tone control is bypassed.

Thanks AGP! And it just dawned on me that since I made it 25.5" scale and didn't glue the nut I could easily change strings, make another nut and it could be switched between bass and guitar... a convertible, if you will.   : )

Hmmm... maybe I'll start using bass hardware on all my builds.

Thanks UJ! Yes, I surprised myself too, she came out pretty good considering all the mishaps I had.

Drilledthe hole for the bridge ground in the wrong spot (what I thought was my pencil mark wasn't), that's why you see two screws behind the bridge, one to fill the misdrilled hole and the other for symmetry. Also had my helper, Shiloh the Aussie Shepherd knock the body into the dirt right after I spayed it with polyurethane. Got carried away filing the nutnand had to make a new one. Plus other "fun  times".  lol

I played bass in a grunge band in the early 90s for a while but wasn't particularly good at it. Haven't played bass in 25 years or so but I'm really enjoying thumpin' around on Bertha.

I've gotten some inquiries and will probably end up selling this one but not until I make one for myself... having too much fun right now.  : )

Gorgeous.  I saw her in progress (on FB, I think) and she looked good.  She came out even better than I anticipated.  Good name for a bass too.   Something to admire from end to end and back to front.

I don't have much of any bass playing skill or talent.  Can you play her?  What is that plan?
