whats a pick????  lol

Something to dig a hole with .... ;)
Guess he's just "anonymous" now.

How will we recognize him?
Only he knows ..... Only he knows ...

As a CBG nooby, I have found that I cannot get use to using a pick at all. It feels too cumbersome and hindering for what I'm trying to do. So yeah, I tossed the picks too (well, I actually kept them, but I never use them if at all). What I have noticed is that you have to play a bit harder to get the volume when not using a pick though. You also lose some of the louder "attack" sound that a pick gives. I have noticed that if I let my nails grow a bit on my fingerpicking hand, I can get a pretty nice/louder sound...but I don't like having long finger nails, LOL.

I am very much looking forward to purchasing an acoustic only CBG. I hope I can find one that I like as far as quality and sound. My current CBG has electric strings and it's just not loud enough to truly enjoy without the amp...I want to be able to jam without an amp as well. And when you're finger picking you lack the volume that a pick provides, so I hope I find a nice, loud acoustic CBG. What concerns me is that alot of CBG's that are acoustic only (with acoustic strings) sound almost like toy guitars...cheap and plinky.

A good compromise for getting used to using a pick is to use one of those square tabs they put on wrapped bread to close the bag, the hole and slit gives a bit of grip and stops it from rotating in your fingers, and as they are pretty flexible, they aren't as harsh a step from finger tips to a heavy pick

I found that a bit but got use to it really quick I've have 2 that I play one the bridge I have right over the timber neck which h is quieter so u piezoed it and it sounds nice through the amp but the other with the bridge on the box lid has a banjo sound effect I just use med acoustic strings don't hear that toyis sound but each ear is different hey

The ones I've heard that sound like toys often have the plastic nylon strings...maybe I just have not come across the right one yet.

I did this long ago. The pick has advantages, but also disadvantages. 1. When playing hard and rhythmically, the muscle between the thumb and index finger gets sore. 2. When you drop a pick, do you find it, get another, or keep playing? I stopped using picks when Glenn Watt's 1 Finger Lessons started. I play in the clawhammer style, plucking the bass, strumming the other 2 strings, or take a washboard scratch approach, strumming with my hand in a claw. Withthus, I can do a more percussive, rhythmic style. Also, give a bluegrass Player an electric guitar and an amp, and I'll show you a future rocker. https://youtu.be/gW_0zbly4Cs
