I was wondering if anyone else was building electric resonators?
I have build one with a homemade magnetic pickup, it works pretty well, I just need to refine the neck and break angles.
What are you all doing?

finished my reso' few weeks back and was unsure where to put a pick up( i wanted it hiden). i tryed a few things, acoustic clip on mic etc. but crap sound and hardly picked up anything.

anyway i had a brain wave and put a piezo between cone ( ally bowl) and biscuit!!

sounds amazing! got ALL the twang you get when played acoustic when played though amp. and super loud!!!!
cheak out my pic's (but doesnt show piezo under biscuit coz picture is pre that idea, you can get what i'm talkin' about though)
this is my top tip! enjoy
Hi Mike,
I am in the process of building an electric resonator for my son who plays with a band. It has a 91/2" spider resonator in it with a transducer running into a Takemine pre-amp. At the neck I am fitting a mini humbucker with all electrics running down to a telecaster control plate.
It is far from finished, and not strictly a CBG, but it is an electric reso.
I am crossing my fingers that it all turns out OK especially the electrics!
There is an odd photo or two on my page of it if you are interested.
Greetings folks. I have been building and repairing stringed instruments for 23 years now. I just finished my first 3 string reso CBG. I set my neck at 1 deg. and used a 5 " HVAC Galvanized cap (homey po, $5) for the resonator. I made a biscuit bridge and cut fret slots with a 21 in scale length. I have plenty of fret wire, but opted to keep it fretless. Made a bottleneck slide for it too. Crystal mic element for the pickup.(mouser electronics, $4). It is louder than most CBGs, but has a very nice tone. Not too tinny sounding. Now my son wants a 4 stringer and I have an order for a 5 string banjo. The banjo will have a paint can lid.

I just finished up my first one. I only used a piezo in it but it has great sound quality, especially when play over an amp.

looks awesome!!!
That's a beautiful CBG!!! Nice flame on the neck..
I'm working on my first CBG, trying to make a 4 string resonator that sounds good amplified. I'm using a Macanudo box and have a stainless steel bowl that I'm using for the cone. I'm trying one of Cajun's ideas by setting the bowl up on dowels inside the guitar, but instead of dowels, I'm using 1/4 inch copper tubing. I don't know if this will help with the chime of the guitar, but I'm hoping for the best.
Does anyone know if it hurts the sound if the cover touches the cone? I'm using a stainless steel trap of some sort???for the cover.
I have built 2 so far and have started my 3rd. These 2 have 6 inch cones. The next one will have one of Lowe's 9 inch cones.

if you are have issues with neck/break angles... I'd suggest doing a "Bolt-on/pocket" neck (ala' Fender), so that it is adjustable.... Since mastering the technique, it's about all I do, except for prim neck thrus... Allows a lot of room inside the box for your cone and pups.....

the best,

Wichita Sam

Here's one I just finished.

This is the pic I intended to post.
Man that is some beautiful work!
Hi Mike , i upload many photos in my first reso and it is electric, check them, hope those photos helps you,
