I'm sure there are a bunch of you folks that have a musical foundation in your occupation, but for the rest of us who do this purely as a hobby I'm curious what it is you do to pay for your CBG addiction.

Only fair that I start, I'm a director for a dental laboratory in Tarrytown, NY.  I'm fortunate enough to work for a pair of owners that both play and collect guitars and allow me to use the very handy tools we have here for things other than teeth from time to time.

It's cool that your bosses are players and understand. Just as long as we don't see any extractions used for position marker inlays! Or maybe that would be crazy enough to work. I'm an old retired guy after spending years working for the DC government but I played guitar in bands all during that time. Now, after moving to West VA I'm pretty much full time into making and playing instruments. I play a lot of gigs but they're mainly non paying things for community groups.  I supplement my retirement check with paying students on fiddle, banjo and guitar so right now I guess I'm as close to a full time music guy as I'll ever get!

I teach visual art at a high school.
Since beginning my building journey about a little over a year ago, I have added it to my 3-D Design curriculum and share what I am learning. Functional sculpture! Many of the students have been very excited about the process. Some programs in the region have added it as a STEM activity. I focus on all aspects of creating a hand made instrument, not just the science. I have the students do a lot of research and then we discuss the practical choices and design concerns. Last year, I had students create: CBG electric guitar, complete acoustic guitar build (hand made body and all), several acoustic CBGs and canjo. This year, I have a student building a simple dulcimer, a cajone and Canjo. Experimentation is encouraged.
Of course I share this website, you tube and general research on the Internet.

I'm a 1/2 retired pool service guy. I started making gits as a way to teach two grandsons how to use tools. I got the bug and haven't found a need to stop. Mrs. Grandpa has been pushing for full work termination......I hope she means more time for git building!

Thanks Wayfinder! Sadly, I can't teach music theory because I don't know it. I'm not a musician. I'm just banging around on my builds.
We need more things like this in school. Too much testing, not enough doing/making. I really push teaching the science of measuring as much a I can, though. The students are clueless when it comes to that skill.

I'm a factory worker in a cake factory building and dragging around 1tonne pallets of cakes for distribution to coffee shops.

Help! I hate my job! :))

source unknown but seen often on facebook.

If you sometimes get down about not having  great job, go to the drug store, purchase a Johnson & Johnson Rectal thermometer, take it home, have a seat, unwrap it, pull out the little information insert inside the package and read it:

...

"Every Thermometer is individually tested by our quality control  inspectors"

...

Does you job still look as bad?

Lol

I work for a certain large and well known airplane manufacturer in Washington State. I'm part of the quality team at our delivery center, and my job right now is basically to climb around on airplanes and learn stuff about them. So yes, I am blessed to have the job I do.

Like!
