Ok, so I built my first CBB, now I want a portable amp.

==Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm doing!!! So any and all advice is greatly appreciated==

I found a good box at the Cigar Shop recently: 16"x7x5

Thinking of mounting the speakers in the bottom, nice looking wood (thinner than top). Maybe a latch on the side panel to open for controls panel? Storage box for batteries, maybe ac adaptor? Picks, slides.

I would like to have an AC DC adaptor, not sure what voltage. The amp says 9-15v, could I hook a wall adaptor and a 9v battery up to  switchable loop?

I am thinking about using this amplifier:

Wayfinder reports good luck with it. Though it is volume only, no tone. Seems easy enough to plug speakers into it.

AC/DC 12V 2x15W Digital Quality Audio Amplifier DIY Kit Dual-Channel Module 4-8Ω

1. Working voltage: DC 9-15V
2. Power: 15W +15 W
3. Maximum power:30W+30W
4. Output Impedance: 4-8Ω

Would need to add a power switch between amp and supply.

  And looking at these speakers:

PYLE-PRO PDMW5 - 5'' High Performance Mid-Bass Woofer

  • 100 Watts RMS / 200 Watts Peak Power Handling - 5'' Treated Paper Cone
  • 1'' High Temperature Aluminum Voice Coil - 15 oz Magnet Structure
  • Sensitivity: 90dB - Frequency Response: 80Hz ~ 7kHz
  • Mounting Depth: 2''
  • 8 Ohm Impedance

======

For power supply a 9v battery and a acdc jack would be sweet. Can't seem to find an adaptor line in jack that isn't for a specific computer

Ah, this might work?

 Power switch?:

Maybe just a 9-volt battery that I unplug when not in use?

Hmm, guess I can't edit original post.

Here are images for the above items (links work too)

Thanks Wayfinder, can't find the milli-hours.

Honestly would just as soon have wall jack as anything, don't want to waste batteries.

That power port is a couple bucks, can't find any on wires.

These are 10 for $2

guess I could get a toggle at hardware store. Couldn't find much on ebay, maybe I'm searching wrong.

We used to have a radio shack, it dried up.

This might work as battery? Rechargeable 12v.

Could fit inside box if i only use one speaker. Probably has to remain upright?

Awesome thanks for the help. Should be able to build this for $50. Battery being most of that.

Might just do one speaker so I can house the battery inside. That would give me about 4-5" for a control panel in between. (toggle/volume)

I built this a while back, awesome amp, but fairly expensive.

I have also had great luck using Danelectro Honeytone amps you can get on eBay with 9V adaptor for around 25$, they kick butt & are cheap. Check out my vid of my Dano driving a 4X12, super loud. If interested I'll tell you how to do it, EZPZ.

Thanks, yeah that's a nice cab.

The Dano would be cheaper but I'd look to do a more self built wood model. (Don't want to deal with that plastic housing-plastic is bad :D )

I know I know, I'm still cheating by buying a premade amp and not wiring one up... Baby steps :)

I just realized that this amp has an 1/8 jack output. I have a few 1/4 to 1/8 adapters so I guess I could situate it so the volume and toggle are inside the panel, and the 1/4 adapter would be on the front panel under the speaker.

You could remove the insides of Dano & mount to wood case, plus you have tone & gain controls. Have fun with project.

Yeah but then I have the new plastic box that will be here for a million years that I have nothing to do with besides throw it away :(

Be mindful of how you wire the walwart jack(center pole + or -) and make sure the walwart plug is the right orientation or you'll possibly toast your amp.

Have fun and take your time. Check everything twice.

 Alright: Parts ordered.

That amp above (looks like 3-7 weeks for delivery) :(  $3

One speaker above. $10 with shipping

Cabelas 12v recharge battery. This has clamps on ends of wire, suppose they can just be cut off. $35 with charger cable.

Toggle switch from True Value ($3 as opposed to waiting for $1 online)

Wires from True Value (I think 14g) bulk red/black/green $3

------

 The wait begins.

Sure thing, I'll try and carry it through to the end and have photos at least.

Enough to make it easy enough for someone else to duplicate. (if it works :)  )
