Hi,

I'm going on vacation tomorrow and while away am going to make some 2 stringers with my nieces and nephews and not sure what string combos work best. I have several 6 string packs and was hoping to do if possible 3 CBGs per pack. Is that possible? Are there 3 sets of 2 that would work well together? If not it is not the end of the world but still need to know what strings would work best together.

Thank you in advance!
Mike

GD is my fave- strings 5 and 4 from a pack..

For LOW tone, EB, strings 6 and 5 from a new pack.   For higher voices, maybe DA, the 4th and 3rd strings.

--- So, from one pack, you could have an EB and a DA.

Other combinations are in there.   Lots of kids voices work well with the key of C - do CG with the 4th and 3rd.

Sorry for the delay in reply. Work has been crazy but I am finally on vacation. Whoo hoo! Thank you for the reply and string combo suggestions. Can the 2 and 1 strings be used in combo as well and if so what tuning is recommended. I am trying not to waste if possible but if not, that is ok but do prefer to not waste. Thank you again!

I just experimented on a six string tuning the two small strings to AE.    I thought it would be too high pitched, but son of a gun, it sounded pretty good.

Excellent thank you! I am still trying to learn so your help is greatly appreciated. :)
Thank you Uncle John for all your help. With your help I have worked with my nieces and nephews and my two daughters and we built eight 2 string CBGs and the kids love them. The kids range in age from 6 to 19. All except for one, we used the backs as the soundboard and I had the kids draw simple pictures on the soundboard in pencil and I used a wood burner over the images. They really came out nice. The younger kids have decided to put on a performance for us on the 4th and are practicing. :-).

Thank you again!
Mike
