My thoughts and opinions as I drink my second PBR with spicy hot V8 juice.   PBR and spicy hot V8 juice.  Cheap and good.  Like CBGs.

I see a decline in the numbers of videos and photos posted on CBN.   Is interest decreasing?

I have a shit-load of opinions on this, but right now, I want to hear what you think.  What is the state of the CBG world and where is it going?

A few reasons:

  1. Fun and educational DIY project
  2. Conversation starter when you display or play
  3. No one else plays one just like yours
  4. Unique and personal style and tone
  5. Chicks dig it!
Like John we should all take the type time to respond or post somting positive in a video pic ect a few times a week .you never know how far a little support and encouragement will go . What You may inspire . Just food gor though

Great discussion you started Uncle John! I think CBGs are more popular and widespread than ever. Hell, you got Sir Paul McCartney playing one in concert so they ain't no secret anymore! Pictures all over the place of Johnny Depp with them.I think as Shane said, you see ebb and flow here according to seasons and other stuff people have going on. I was fairly active in here but then we moved, then moved again, so my CBG building and music playing got put on the back burner.I'm just now getting back into the swing a bit, trying to get a workshop cobbled together and find my tools and stuff. Just got a commission to build one for a new music friend of mine so that kind of got me going. Right now just doing some of the little repairs and stuff I tend to put  off while I'm actively building(feeding my addiction or whatever you want to call it) like fixing the neck mount on my first reso-build, again, and stuff like that, setting up jamspace, finding new places to get boxes etc. One thing I have noticed and have talked to you about before is the lack of comments posted on the photo pages. I think most of that is prob. due to the addition of the "Like" button, easy to just click that and move on rather than type"hey that is really nice". I also have always been a bit irked when folks post pictures but do not include any details or comments about what we are seeing and am I guess less likely to take the time to write comments when the original poster did not put forth the effort to. I'm looking at the photos cause I'm interested in what you have done and how you did it. Some of us also get distracted by other online interests like FB and can spend a lot of time there instead of in here. I struggle with that myself because I love the connection FB gives me with my"real" friends that we moved away from when we relocated to MA. When I spend time on FB though, it takes away from the time I have to spend here with my "Nation" friends. I am thankful for both.

Yup, Bruce.  CBGs and their cousins like license plate guitars and canjos are going strong!

If you aren't going to bother describing the build, telling the story, building tips, pitfalls, and hopefully showing us what the thing sounds like, its just a picture with frustratingly few clues. I have even for the most part quit asking questions much less commenting on them, as I just wonder why people bothered uploading them!

Click, move on.

Facebook? Really don't get the attraction from what I have seen. But then as people who know me are keenly aware, I am not a one sentence at a time communicator, and I feel no need to share every detail with those I expect don't have any real interest anyway......

Facebook and "smart" phones have made most people far dumber as far as I can observe.

Amen...Facebook is a big time suck. Lots of stuff to look at and not a lot of substance. As for ebb and flo, (weren't they a vaudeville act?) I've been mostly absent on the nation for the past few weeks thanks to a really crappy winter head cold. Starting to feel "normal" again, whatever that is and should be back in the area more in the coming weeks. Have a new build to post pictures of and a couple of builds that I really need to get working on as they are gift's that I need to have done in the next two weeks.

I Know what you mean about "smart phones", seems like a lot of folks can't live without them. I have a "dumb phone", (only makes phone calls, can't even take a picture) and don't even turn it on most of the time. Don't care for the idea of an electric leash in my life.

I too really like seeing the build notes with the photos. I have trouble attaching a description with my photo uploads on this site and end up adding it after the photos. Maybe others find the process challenging also,
( could just be me...)
Maybe someone could explain the process for us techno deficient folks and make it easier to connect the photo notes to the photo.

Easy squeezie...once your photos upload, a page with the photos comes up with a section for each to create a title and add comments & tags. Once that is done, on the lower right is a spot that says SAVE.

Thanks Scott, I'll try that next time.

I haven't been around as long as most of you guys,  I started playing guitar in high school, spent ten years in the navy playing every where I got a chance played in church worship groups and banjo with a bluegrass gospel band for over ten years.  Raised 4 kids and have stayed married to the same woman for 36 years.  Retired, became sedentary.  Then I descovered that I could build s playable musical instrument that was more complex than a piece of waxed paper and a comb.  All of a sudden three is a whole world of people out there that want to do the same, with varing skill levels and talents that encourage each other swap blues names and care thanks every one.

Decline? or recline! I think I'm dreaming of my next build and the detailed description that will go on the caption..zzzz
