Hello,
Like I said, I have been lurking for some time trying to figure out the world of CBG mostly giving myself a headache while doing that I might add. Today I took the plunge at both ends of the pond I guess.
I have my cigar boxes, 4 really nice ones. I have my wood for the neck etc and knobs and a pickup ordered. I have tuners and many other oddly shaped objects. I am ready to go. Everyone hide the children.
The other half of my leap was that I ordered a St. Blues 4 string CBG. I am a wee bit excited.
I suppose that may be called cheating but I ordered it for a particular reason(s).
First, I want to start playing.
Second, I have never held or even seen a CBG of any kind except on the internet. I am hoping to use this CBG as sort of a guide to help me put part A where part A really belongs. I do not want to copy it, I just want to see and hold one and...........did I mention I WANT TO START PLAYING!!!!!!!!!!!
I have played acoustic guitar for some time now and this should be interesting. I am older and retired and playing guitar and building things are two activities I enjoy to relax with so it should work out fairly well.
If you hear sounds of confusion coming from the corner that should just be me.

Well, I see there was more than a nibble. I would say the hook is firmly set! Nothing left to do be start reeling you in. It's like Potato Chips (you can't make just one!). Are you planning all 4 stringers or are you going to delve into the 3 string pool a bit also?
Welcome aboard!
Dan
Hi Dan and thanks for the response.
I am going to build a 3 string CBG first and see how it goes, not that it would be much less difficult to build.
After that I can see which I like best, 3 or 4 string and go from there. The only problem with that is I have seen 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 string CBGs so I may have started something that may require therapy after awhile.
Either way, I put this off long enough and I figured it is time to start having a bit of fun.
LW, the only therapy for what you got....and sounds like you got it, is to keep building and playing.... This website is an amazing resource. look at thousands of pics, use the search feature and post questions.
Welcome and good luck, Wichita Sam
Hi Wichita,
Lord knows I need therapy.
I have been snooping around in here for about 2 months, quite often getting lost or having my head explode from all of the info I find. I am still snooping and when I get into the build I imagine I will have a complete manuscript of questions to ask. First though I have to know something to be able to ask anything. So far I have become very accomplished at going out into the garage and fondling my cigar boxes, that's about it. Going to pick up a few tools this week and see what happens.
Thanks for the welcome.................
The best thing I can tell you is to dive into the build before you think you're ready. It will force growth via problem solving. 2nd, go ahead and ask questions, even if you don't know how to ask it. (sometimes pictures help). 3rd, screw ups are the best tutors. You can fix mistakes, figure work arounds, or scrap what you have and start over. The biggest total lost is a stick and a box. almost everything else with be salvageable.
