songs to learn for a begginer.

so i thought i would ask you nice folks the best songs for total begginers to learn with?
If we could compile a list of songs with tabs or notes that would be great and hopefully stop guitar meeting the wall at force with the 1000th poor rendition of smoke on the water

This is a much needed list with tabs for the beginner. Searching the net is fruitless and I am looking forward to some tabs to follow. Awesome idea for a thread!

Yeah thats what i spent time doing and then i started watching the videos to someone saying do this then this then give it a bit of this whilst am still trying not to drop me pick in me mug of tea, so hopefully for us special kids this will be useful.

I'm trying more seriously to learn to play. I think you need to answer a few questions about WHAT you want to play first. Are you playing a three-string or four-string? Picking notes, fingering chords, or playing slide? I've been building CBG's for a year now of all different types, and I think that's why my playing hasn't progressed to where I want it to be. I can pick some songs tuned EBGD, and some tuned GDG, but I think if one concentrates on one particular style, you'll see more improvement.

For now, I'm settling on ukulele AECG as I've found more sites with tabs for simple songs to play.

If anyone is interested, I'll put up some simple finger picking tabs for uke.

Okay, this is a pretty simple picking song - "Ode To Joy". I tabbed it for 4 string but if you tune a 3 string ECG or BGD (or other corresponding string progression) and disregard the top line it should work.

Well me personaly i will be on a 3 string fretted trying to do everything i possibly can. But i was thinking of a begginers guide to cover the most commom gits which i suppose would be 3 and 4 string and am sure could break into sections for fretted,frettless
If theres enough intrest from the nice more experienced players i will start a group and make sections was just waving my tackle int wind to see what bites as it where haha.

Yes....I too want it all!

But then reality sinks in, and the effort no longer is just trying to learn how to play the CBG, but also not to get discouraged and just quit. (ain't gonna happen!)

So, I watched pretty much all of the videos for beginners on strumming, and on picking, and on playing slide, and on playing fretted. All good stuff. And yes, to get good it takes a commitment to practice on a regular basis.

But........what would really help is to find just one really simple instructional video that goes from A-to-Z with very detailed steps....and to have tablature along with it. To be able to learn just one song really well would go a long ways in boosting our confidence. And that way, when we are showing off our CBGs to our family and friends, we no longer will look like complete toads for not being able to show them what these CBGs sound like when playing properly.

Just saying....

Myself ,I am on a fretted 3 string tuned to GDG. I have another 3 stringer that I can tune to different tunings but will wait to see where this thread goes. I havent got around to building a 4 string yet. Anyone else on 3 stringers ?

I have a fretted and an unfretted 3-string.

I would guess that 'most' newbies will want to tackle a 3-string first.
