Hi all! I build harp mics for fun and, occasionally, to do a bit of bartering/trading with folks for other gear. Some time ago, I wrote an instructable on how to make a fully DIY bullet mic. Check it out if you are interested: http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-quotbulletquot-style-harmonica-...

Also, if you are interested, I've got several videos of other microphone projects I've done, and some more how-to's over on my YouTube channel. Check them out if want: https://www.youtube.com/user/isaacullah

I'm always up for some mic-talk, so if you've got a hot topic, post it up!

Hey not much traffic? Like the instructable! Could you have used a pizeo (spelling I know) in place of an element from an old mic? I'm really interested in building a mic once I get my build and know a condensor mic should work in theory. Eventually want to tackle a ribbon if I can find someone with experience to guide me through.

anyone have any good ideas usin an old rotary telephone element as the mic. Also can i use a phantom powered element as a harp mic and how would i wire that up....i`m just starting to get into making my own harp mic`s.

Hi Randy, Here's one I made awhile back. Its from a 1962 rotary southern bell phone.

Attachments:

i just hook the 1/4 cable right to the reciever wires, or does need something else. I`m making the housing out of bone.

Hi Randy. I attached the 1/4" cable right to the element. You just have to figure out what lead is + or -. The hardest part was finding an old rotary phone that had a chrystal element, also I had to modify the mouth piece to accept the ear piece element as the housing. It sounds pretty sweet but I wished there was enough room for a volume pot.

I found an old rotary phone at the local thrift store...5 bucks...so guess i`m in business. Just have to find a good size piece of bone to use as my housing.

Ok... so I checked out the one on the instructables site, very cool. Looks like I got a new prodject for the weekend.

Cool... I look forward wait to seeing it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280969296322    just bought 2 of these cartridge style elements for my vocal mic idea. Didn`t want to spend big bucks on something like a Shure element in case this idea doesn`t pan out.
