lets all dig people!

very cool.

Awesome nice work

This is huge and in the spirit of what Alan Lomax was trying to accomplish.

I dig.

I saw this and really enjoyed the history in the story as well as some of the early recordings. Upon further research, also found that there was some even earlier recordings from the American south here. Gordons collection has some stuff on metal cylinder starting in the mid 1920's.

Also some of you might be interested in this collection of fiddle tunes, many of which are from the 19th century, recorded by Allan Jabbour in the mid sixties, played by Henry Reed of Glen Lyn, Virginia, then in his eighties.

Much more early Americana, history and pictures here.

I wanna download the whole thing!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd dredge it up from the past to let folks know that the Alan Lomax archive has a You Tube channel. They haven't posted the entire archive, as I'm sure that would take a couple of decades, but as of today they have posted 358 videos. Some videos are live performances by the artists, while others are phonograph and tape recordings of performances accompanied by pictures. You'll find everything from RL Burnside and John Lee Hooker to Sid Hemphill in the archive. Most of the sessions appear to have been recorded in the 70s and 80s, but there are performances dating back to the 30s as well.

Here's a link to the Alan Lomax Archive You Tube channel:

Some awesome stuff for blues and folk fans!

There are some really cool nuggets archived there, I enjoyed browsing them. Thanks for the lead!

I just wish there was a way to index and sort through them better!

If you go to the YouTube channel, then click on the "Uploads" button, you'll be able to choose "Playlists".  There are only 13 playlists (each with multiple videos) that are sorted into specific topics.  It's helpful...

thanks voodoo, looks like some late nights coming
