I've never heard the thing about cleaning up the shop before working from anyone else, but that's generally what I do.  Make a bunch of sawdust then take a break or impatiently start playing the guitar.  Clean up at the start of the next session.

That's how I do it too. Somehow, it makes it easier to jump right in when there's already sawdust all over the place.
