I pulled the paint can lid out of my cigar box banjo (can be seen in my photos) and added a head made from a plastic lid off of a graham cracker pie crust, a hoop of laminated underlayment plywood and thumb tacks, then tightened with a heat gun. It actually sounds much better than with the can lid head, less buzzing in the high strings. Forgive my novice level playing, I've only been at it about five months.

Blueshammer demo - Baby Please Don't Go

Anyway, a couple of us have been discussing finger picking and I have talked about a clawhammer adaptation or two that I use so here's a demo of what I'm calling "blueshammer" on my 5-string Sawzall Box Dobro.

I change up between a pattern of thumb, strum, pick and strum, pick thumb depending on the song. I like this with the bass note on the thumb instead of a banjo drone string. I'm still working on my finger picking and adding little melodic embellishments. New thing for me to practice.

Often instead of a proper strum, I will hit the strings with the backs of my fingernails causing them to click on the upper frets. Makes a nice snare beat.

It gets both the guitar and banjo players lookin' at you funny. :)
