Thanks Jeff!  I am now in the hunt for some SM-57s and 58s.  Part of my hobby in this is using as much homemade or used stuff as I can.  It's hard to find those used in my area.  Plus they are so good most people don't want to part with them.  Anyway, the fun continues.

that suitcase sounds better than some bass drums ive played on. put an sm 57 in front of that thing and i bet it will sound great thru a board
