Really a cool instrument. How hard was it to build. I have wanted to try to make one but I keep phyching myself out of it. Very nice!!!

After viewing yours and that Havalena guy's version, I'm leaning toward a dulcimer approach--kinda like a "strumstick" but with the rosined wheel instead of strumming.   You're right, bowing fiddle/cello  style  takes a lot of practice as I'm finding on that thing I completed last weekend.

Will, it is tuned DGD, the 2 long strings are to note, the short D-string is the drone-string.

Will, you actually note it like a fiddle, but i can't play fiddle :(

WM:  how do you note this 'gurdy?  Looks like a fretless 5string banjo neck--do you use fingers stopping the chantrelle(s) or some sort of slide, or both.   I'm toying with the idea of a dulcimer type neck and using either a tonebar or small dowelstick as in a dulcimer....but with the rosined wheel like you have here... Thanks for the links you gave me.
