I've just done a video showing how to slot guitar fretboards with our template and mitrebox. It's simple quick and accurate...an end to fretboard slotting misery, no tricks, no unpleasant excercise, no saleman will call, step right up, step right up.

I had a workshop with newbies in cbg matters, and we checked three methods of slotting a fretboard; for the first two methods we marked the fret positions with a fret scale rule:

1. just with a knivelike saw with a narrow blade: reinserting the blade into a slot not yet deep enough sometimes resulted in a corrupted slot which was to wide to clamp the fret; without working with a feeler most cuts weren't level so the fret didn't attack properly in the mid of the board.

2. with cbgittys guitar fretting starter kit, with some modifications: the original mitre box is to narrow for metric cut timber, so I had to replace it; further I added a feeler to check that the slot is level and deep enough: works fine if you control the slot meticulously again and again with the feeler.

3. with chickenbone john's fret slotting tools: just saw...

Nice, well-built and long lasting tools for a good price: fret slotting miter box, fret scale template, fretting saw, for USD 66.40 or EUR 62.00 the crucial tools.

Andries, the pin is offset 12mm (1/2 inch from the saw slot).  We have the templates specially laser cut for us to our design and specifications.

Excellent method and demonstration! Are other scale templates available as well? I make a lot of ukes and mandolins as well as 25.5" scale guitars. Thanks John!
