Good vid Mark good idea with the laminate and the glue will not stick to it like it would to your bench I put plastic masking tape under,When I make one for I have a bit of lam flooring. That a Guit tip;-)

Probably the best way to get accurate angles consistently, Bug, would be to get an adjustable miter box and miter saw. I've seen sets advertised online anywhere from $40 US to $180 US. Not cheap, but not outrageously expensive either.
