I think you've got the sound nailed perfectly. Well-defined tone but it doesn't sound like a commercial resonator.

Somewhere around here there must be a group that will show me how to make one of these.

Yep that was me almost....Tony was playing the washboard and tea chest drum. I was trying to play harmonica and a three stringed guitar. It was a good weekend. Del.City is a great little place. Cheers mate.
